I am not looking for a which is better response since any comments will be subjective to personal taste and needs. My question relates to the front deck. Is the P2 front deck raised vs. Panteera Classic? I have read certain deck being referenced as being raised. What exactly does this mean? If the P2 front deck is raised what is the benefit of this and what will the fisherman in the front experience vs. a deck that is not raised? Thanks, MISR12
Raised Decks Puma FTD Cougar FTD – not raised as high as the others Puma Pantera 2 Sabre FTD Standard Cougar Advantage Elite Pantera 4 Pantera Classic Sabre Compare the different boats and pictures on the Bass Cat website and you can see the difference between a raised deck and one that is not. A raised deck makes pitching and flipping easier and it puts one a little higher than in one that is not raised. The higher gunnel of the standard deck will prevent one from accidentally kicking something overboard. However, Ive never kicked anything overboard in the raised deck boats in 4 years. Advantages of one over the other?……..Just depends on which you like the best. Personally, I like the looks much better of the raised deck.
Also, does the front deck widen and expand? How much higher are the decks raised? I was at OI and I could not see a noticeable difference. I need to be more accute to this. Thanks in advance!Last edited by misr12 on May 10th, 2009, 3:24 am, edited 1 time in total.
Misr12, yes, there is a noticable difference visually in deck heights. Also the deck width carries further forward on the P-2 than on the classic. This is noticable as well visually but really noticed when you have 6 or 8 rods on the front deck with you. ( that is for people like me who can never figure out what to throw) I believe most of the width of the deck comes from the rasing of the deck as well as skinnier gunnels. Im not totally positive but I think the boats are the same outside width, BCB just made the proper adjustments to widen the boat within itself. It is not a bigger boat. Hope this helps. That would be correct, the decks are changed in their top deck design, since they share the same hull. The Pantera II is more for the middle aged to younger angler in preference, whereas the older anglers do prefer the lower gunnels and wider top caps. They feel safer and feel less likely to fall overboard. From the experiences of the BCB staff, they built a shop staff boat in a Pantera II model. These staff could have selected any model in the 19 down was the agreement, and they opted for a P2. This was their boat to use on weekends and whenever.
Thanks, that really is helpful and clear info. I am in early planning stages of upgrading my boat and now can make a more informed decision. misr12
Tom, You better start looking at trading that Sabre in with the amount of hours you put on it in a year.
Ron, you bet! Sure learned alot int he last year about motors and WOT speeds. Feel like I figured some things out. Thank goodness for a 5 year transferrable warranty! Getting the itch for a P2 but needed info on on deck difference between it and the P-Classic. Hope all is well for you after OI? misr12
Things are good. Just waiting to hear from the local Evinrude dealer to see what results are from the spun hub. I think you should just wait on the new Jag, hey its only money!!!
I feel ya on the Itch Misr. Mine is going on 9 years old now and I have had the itch for a while. I just have to hang on though until my daughter finishes school then I can treat myself again. Bad problem is my truck is 10 years old too. Im going to need both at the same time. A P-2 is currently my next boat. I love the 19 footers. Perfect size for my fishing style. Good luck with your choice. I know you already have the engine picked out!! Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
