can someone explain how to replace the toggle switch. I didn’t want to damage the backing plate.

Unless you can reach behind it you’re going to have to remove the panel. The switch is held in by plastic tabs on the backside of the switch. Compress them and it will pop out.

You may be able to gain access from the opening below the console and reaching aft, or by removing the Throttle control panel above it. If I had access to my boat I could be more specific, but I am currently at work.

Sorry guys I should have specified, how can I remove that panel without damaging it. It doesn’t appear to be screwed in. I didn’t want to attempt to pry it off before asking

Just looking at your picture, that panel is pop riveted in so you have to remove the pop rivets to remove the panel. After you are finished, just pop rivet it back in.

That is correct, the panel is riveted in on that one and you will have to carefully drill the heads out, then tap the shank through with a punch. The panel will remove and those are 1/8 aluminum rivets on that one, nothing fancy.

The issue is probably more in the wire connections as those Carline switches have a very high dependability and seldom fail in that situation.
