I am a newbie to Bass Cat Boats with the purchase of a 1999 Pantera 3 with 2008 200 HO Evinrude e-Tec. What is the difference between the P3, the P2, and the Pantera Classic? It seems the P3 wasn’t made for very long, does anyone know why? And how does it stack up to other Bass Cat boats as far as rough water ride, dry ride, fishability, etc? Thank you.

I’m sure BCB will be along to answer more as soon as they get back from shows as many are on the road. I have a 2001 P3 and it fishes to me as good as any 20′ boat I have fished out of. The ride is dry and once you learn the Bass Cat trim, the ride is equal as well. The P3 was equal to the premium models in options that came standard of the day. I think it was discontinued only because BCB introduced the P IV model. I hope you are enjoying yours as much as I am mine.

The p-3 was a little deeper hull designed for handling the bigger waters of larger reservoirs. It was a premium hull and was one of the best bass cat ever built. It was overall a little bigger boat than the P-2 and not quite as quick on hole shot or top end. It is a favorite of many still today and well kept used models rarely show up because their owners don’t let em go.

I love my old “2001”. It is not a speed demon but will still hit 68-70 with just me and full tanks and livewells. The only time I wished for a bigger boat was at the Owners Invitational on Sam Rayburn a few years ago, but I watched a few Puma’s and Cougar’s get beat up pretty bad that Friday. I fish everything from the shallow marshes and the Lower Mississippi River Delta in Louisiana, to the deep Ozark lakes, and anything in between. My P3 likes to run at the upper rpm ranges, and cruises well at about 4500-4900 rpm’s, much below that and the front will tend to dig in (this is probably because I keep a small tackle store in my front compartments). Because I just went through this I would recommend checking all of the connections on the terminal block mounted to the inside of the transom on the drivers side, clean and repair any bad wires or terminals to head off any bad days on the water.

Thank you all for the excellent information and the warm welcome! I can’t wait till I actually get time to go out and fish in it! I bought this to replace my 18 ft single console Xpress aluminum to provide a second console for my wife and a little more comfort on the large reservoir we keep it on.
