So I’m in the market on buying my first cat don’t know going the new route or buying something slightly used but I live in Michigan mostly fish inland lakes but moving to Tennessee in a few years will any of these boats be fine on big lakes like Kentucky lake …etc …..On the front deck of these boats could any of owners can show me rods on deck ? Seeing how many I can get in there and if 7’6 ft rods will fit up there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have an 06 classic and it does well on KY Lake. When the swells are 2 to 3 foot, I just go slow and keep her trimmed down. My back cannot handle the wave jumping anymore. When over 3, I stay off the main lake, or limit my travel, and when on the main lake, I keep the nose up and bulldoze the waves, not getting on plane. Ive speared a few in my day, and dont care to do it again. I stay nice and dry, as the hull does a great job of keeping water from splashing over the sides. Hard winds will blow spray, but that is expected. I am no expert on rough water, but I am no rookie either. Ive never had a boat over 19 in rough water and only rode in one one time in rough water, and that was a Z9 on the Potomac with a pro, and he even took it slow, but on plane. Ive been told the extra foot or so will help to reach the next crest, so your chance of spearing is less, but again, I dont have personal experience. My guess is, that since both the P4 and new Classic are longer, they might handle a little better. Only difference would be if the new hull design on the new Classic was built with rough water in mind.I dont think you can go wrong either way.My 06 classic has room for 8 foot rods on the passenger side when the console is out,and still leaves plenary of room for the passenger and really doesnt affect him/her. With the console in, the trolling motor prevents longer rods on that side so I put them on the drivers side, as I can move the reels up towards the center near the trolling motor insert area, and the tips fit flat on the deck. Doing this, I can get 4 or 5. 7 to 8 foot rods on the deck. The 6.5 foot fit nicely along the outer side. I would think the P4 and new Classic would have a few more inches of length on the front deck than mine. Sorry the pic is bad, its the only one I could find. You can see the way my trolling motor sits, preventing longer rods on that side when I have a partner. Those are 6.8 to 7.6 foot rods, as I was down at KY Lake by myself and had the tips hanging off more than I would if Id had a partner.Hope that helps a little anyway, even though it is an older classicSent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Longer rods, over 7, do crowd the passenger some. When I have a partner, I put those on the driver side. With the console installed, the driver side is my only option.Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

One dealer said the Cougar handled big water best, and a different one told me his Puma did. So I guess it is all relative. I will be curious to see what John says about the Lynx compared to the Eyra. I like the “big water” look of the Lynx. So now I am torn between 2 models. The Caracal and the Lynx for my next boat. But knowing Bass Cat, they will come up with a new model by the time I decide to buy and throw a monkey wrench in my decision making process…lolSent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
If they keep on doing the wide boats be hard to choose ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Butkus wrote:Here are my rods on the deck of my new Pantera Classic. Plenty wide enough, a 7’-6” rod will overhang the front deck a few inches but its certainly not in the way of the passenger. If you added the passenger console then the length might be an issue but without it there are no problems at all. This boat has a ton of room.IMG_5082.JPGSent from my iPhone using TapatalkYea I’m going duel console too how many inches does it over hang on passenger side ?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And also you think I can get 16 or 18 Plano’s in those port side boxes ?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
