Hello all,

In the process of purchasing my first Cat, a pantera classic with a 4 stroke 150 pro Xs. I realize the 200 is the better option but the deal is substantial enough to sacrifice the top speed. Any experiences on the 150? Prop selection? I’ve been fishing out of my father’s 91 and 94 pantera IIs for a long time. Until recently he always had 150s on them from the old BASS rules, and they were great running 5 blade props on the great lakes. Wondering what speeds folks are getting on a new classic with a 4 or 5 blade prop. Thanks!

The 5 blade would work great on that setup. Just not the quickest out there. We believe they ran an odd wheel on the MLF Boats with Pro XS Optimax engines. That is possible, to make it run well, it’s just going to take some efforts to figure out what you want.

Thanks for the info. Another topic of concern I have is I am seeing on a few of these boats including the one I am heading to pickup next week… is that there doesn’t appear to be a Tachometer gauge installed. This one (and a couple others) looks to have a 3 gauge setup instead of the full mercury gauge suite. Anyone have any experiences adding the additional gauges from a wiring perspective? Is the harness for the tach already there perhaps or is it going to be new wiring home run from the motor? Thanks in advance.

Is it the tach missing or the speedo? I haven’t seen any with no tach, not saying they don’t exist. The ones I’ve seen have no speedo and you use the GPS on the graph for speed. If you need more info on the gauges a Mercmonitor works well and is a straight forward install.

You know, after taking a closer look at some images online of a couple different boats, you are right. It is a tach, not a speedo. That is good. While we are on the topic Ricoshet, what all goes into installing either a Mercmonitor or a smartcraft speedo? I know there is a multi pin connector on the gauge, but is there a special adapter or cable to get it back to the motor?

Big thing I want is hours eventually, so if I can get that in a speedo or the mercmonitor, that would be great.

I would think any of today’s electronics installed on the boat will display MPH data as another option per the fish finder’s GPS.
