Ive been intrigued by this boat since it was re-introduced a few years back. However, Ive reached the age where rough water ride is a major concern for me and I do fish large lakes at times. What kind of ride can I expect with this 19″ boat in the rough stuff? And, just out of curiosity, what could I expect for speed with a 200 XS? Thanks.
The P2 is a good ride in rough water. I think you would be very happy. This is my favorite 19ft boat and one that will handle like a sports car but still does well in rough water. Most people are getting 72-75 mph with a 200 Pro XS. It all depends on load, setup, conditions and driving ability. If you looking for a 19ft rig with a 200 a P2 is hard to beat.
Good Choice on a Perfect sized boat….Ive driven a couple P2s and am always smiling in the end….a guy with the Title Bama96 has a New 2011 with a 200 SHO, besides having blistering speeds he can go over how it rides on top of the waves, not in them. BCBs of ALL flavors have a Very Dry ride, its in their Architecture….The boat is built to the best detail. That boat and Hull is a Evolution from Years and years of Testing. If you want a BCB that blends the 20ft Sized decks with a shorter profile the Pantera 4 is the Ticket, not as fast as its Little Brothers but still runs 70 Loaded……Brannon
My rough water experience in a P II has been great! Now I havent been in any so called 6 or 7 footers but its a dry ride even when the wind is blowing the spray back at you hard.As far as speed Ive seen 75.6 light, and you can expect 70 t0 73+ two people tourney loaded depending on air temp, humidity, and proper setup. The lower unit case design with the verado style lower unit restricts the WOT numbers on the mercury set up. Now Bama96 has seen 77+ with a 200 Yamaha SHO on his P II. Ive wondered what one would do with a 200HO but have never seen any numbers posted.
i just took my new to me pII out for her maiden voyage this morning and all i can say is WOW!!!! that rig blew me out of the water. i think i see now why there is such a loyalty to bass cat. before this boat i had a ranger 175vs and i thought it was pretty quick and it handled ok, but today, as i passed 62mph (and still climbing), i decided to shut it down. it handled great at that speed and the johnson 150 was an incredibly quiet, smooth running engine. at mid throttle, i gassed on it and it actually pushed me back in my seat. it was amazing. i dont know what her top speed will be yet, but im sure as i get used to running higher speeds, ill find out.
Heck i would have to look hard at it with a sho after chet busted 77 open on his p2 sho 4 stroke.
I am running the P2 with a SHO 200, I have gotten to 75 but just made some adjustments to mirror Bama96, so we will see what effect it has! You would be please with the ride of this 19 ft boat, not to mention the speed!
Me too Doug.
Boat rides very good for a 19 boat. I have found it likes to ride on top of the chop. We had 2+ whitecaps last Friday with severe weather coming in. I had a 30 mile run to make and the boat handle them very well. Trimmed it up and ran at 5000 RPMs all the way back. The only issue you would have is if they are spaced and are more of a “roller” type wave. You have to time them better and use you throttle. That is where a 20 would come in handy. The hull is very fast and a blast to drive. You can reach low 70s with little set up effort and with some tweaking mid 70s is possible. It will be a solid 70MPH tournament loaded rig. With what you describe the P4 may be a better fit for you. It rides better than most 20 models on the market. Let me say my 77 MPH run is not the norm. It can be done with my setup but requires the motor be be run very high and it is a handful. If you are not experienced with this hull I suggest some seat time before you try to run at 1.5″ below pad. I dropped mine back to 2″ below pad for tournaments and it carries the load better. Hope this helps.Last edited by Bama96 on April 20th, 2011, 10:44 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Macismus,Previously owned a Ranger 481 VS (193″ in Length). In fact, it was the blue one featured in the Stren fishing commercials a few years ago with Bobby Padgett. The PII is a far superior ride. It jumps out of the hole, and it is very stable in the conditions I have run it in at Lake Eufaula with 3 foot waves, and it handles like a dream. You may check the owners board to see if there are any PII owners in your area. They may be willing to let ride to see if it will meet your needs. Hope this helps.Carky Freeman
