Hi Guys ,I am on the path to getting a Bass Cat and have had a spanner thrown in the works ! The more posts i read it seems that going to a Pantera II is a recommended move over a Sabre FTD with a 175 (this was my original choice of Cat),I dont have garage issues ,but i do some fishing on my own and obviously want the most fuel efficient engine i can get as we all know fuel aint gettin any cheaper ! so i was wondering what are peoples thoughts on getting a Sabre FTD with a 175 over the Pantera II with a 200 ,Is the ride that much better in the PII ? Will i also need to go a dual axle on the PII trailer ?Thanks in advance all you guys on the forum have been a great help so far cheersDave.
The ride is significantly better in the Pantera II and efficiency in fuel at say 60 MPH will be better in the P2 with like branded engines. The cost is insignificant verses an 18 and 175, to the 200 rated Pantera II. Especially when one takes in the cost of freight to Australia from a USA port and road miles in each end, which will be significant for the journey.
Dave get the P2 with a single axle trailer. No problems at all with mine. You will be very happy with it.
i have a pII with a single axle trailer and it works just fine.
I had a garage issue when I bought my Sabre FTD went as far as trying to park a PII in that garage. The ONLY reason I have a Sabre FTD is that garage. Ive fished out of a PIi and found the ride better with a good driver. The 175 is a stingy son of a gun but I dont think its night and day above the 200. If garage isnt an issue Id buy the PII of those choices.
For the difference in cost, the PII is a much better value in my opinion. We looked at both in detail before buying the PII. It is a fantastic boat. I know of nothing in the 19 class that will compete with it. Good luck in your decision process.Carky Freeman
Guys I have the Sabre FTD with the 175 Pro XS. It is a sound rig and love to fish out it as is. I have the same issue with garage space and living in an area that makes a boat owner forced to keeping your rig inside. It is a pain in the butt but I deal with it. Either is a good ride as I have fished in both and if had to do it again would go to the PIV just because of the storage space. The space in the Sabre is tight but of course I carry a lot of “stuff” to my tournaments. Bottom line is your check book and investment costs. All are good, sound products!!
Just wanted to give you my opinion based on the past year of driving my new Pantera II Bass Cat. This boat fits my style of fishing, the ride is great and even just fishing, the boat is stable and doesnt rock around when someone walks to the edge. The 200 Pro XS is excellent on fuel mileage. It gets the Cat up on the pad quickly and runs off and leaves my R boat buddies. It really like to run on top of the chop. After a ride in my boat my fishing buddies say they would buy a P2. When I was ordering mine, BassCat recommended the tandem axle trailer and I am glad I did. You may not notice the difference in the first few years but later you will. Cant go wrong with a Mercury! I think you would be very happy with any BassCat but my preference is Pantera II.
Thanks everyone for your input , i still have to weigh up what i will do , financially the sabre with a 150 would be better but i keep reading posts that say most people dont regret getting the bigger boat when you have a choice, however a lot of people regret not moving up to the larger size boat when they had that choice , Yes it will cost me more and is stretching the budget ,but seeing as i am keeping this boat for a least 5 years i have to the decision right as i cant change my mind a year down the track.cheersDave.
Dave if speed is not a major concern look at a Pantera Classic with a 150 or 175. Gets you in a bigger boat for less $.
