Does anyone have this combo, Im looking at a PIV here in MT with a 200 Etec HO. What am I looking at for speed and props? I have never fished a PIV, will it handle rough water as well as my 02 Jag? Thanks for any help or advice. MIke
I absolutely love my PIV boat. Regarding the 200HO Etec from what I have heard and read it absolutely is killer on the PIV. We need a little Rude Rage around here. LOL Now go out and get one! FlyswatterLast edited by Flyswatter on January 24th, 2010, 12:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Mike, so you know the 1 boat that BCB really says runs good with a Evinrude HO is the Pantera 4. Rick Pierce(owner) and Ivan Williams(national sales manager) both have told me in person that because of the Hull, pad design and simply the the boat, both the 2003-2005 Direct Injection 200ho with Lightning (Bullet)gear case and the 2006-current E-TEC 200 HO with Lightning 1 or 2 Gear case simply get the best performance. Now Tom Moore (Flyswatter) has the 200 Yamhammer 200 Series 2, which has a more elaborate Bullet lower unit, and he is seeing better performance substantially than Mercury powered Pantera 4s, so as the Owner of the company has told me, something just works right with that Lower unit design. That boat in Montana is Killer, take off the Red stickers on the motor and have them color matched to the gelcoat, Yellow where the red is, Blueberry and white as from the factory, and Poof, you have a INCREDIBLY good looking boat, that will out perform most in speeds, outperform the best in Rough water, super draft for shallows, and a HUGE front deck, do a comparison of the front decks of BCBs off of their brochure, put the schematic drawings side by side, that P4 looks wider than the Puma, pretty cool. Merc powered units get 68-71, Ive read one guy getting faster, but its with a fury, most have a trophy from the years past, Yamahas like tom above I think he said 72-74? and BRP Evinrudes HO is 87, just kidding, Ive read of similar #s to Toms, but as Tom will tell ya the Ole Yamahammer loves the 2M Yamalube oil, the Etec is Insane on Oil, Great on gas, maintenance is as easy as anything, even easier, every 3yrs, 6-plugs ($75) 1-fuel filter ($20???), scan EMM computer ($75-$100), drain Lightining gear case of HPF XR synthetic grease ($15ish), and thats it!!!! Now thats every 3years or 300 hours, I tell my guys to check lower unit fluid yearly, if discolored change and call me, to grease yearly if used alot 100hrs, if not then every other year, use Marine Stabil, BRP Evinrude 2+4 fuel conditioner, Mercury Fuel Treatment, to keep fuel fresh, if you can get 87octane with NO Ethanol great, if not use 89 with no Ethanol, I dont believe 91-93 octane will hurt anything, but alot of guys say to run 87-89. Use Evinrude XD50 or XD100 Oil ONLY, I recommend and Evinrude recommends XD-100, its fully synthetic, does not produce Carbon deposits so unlike Yamahas or Mercs you do not have to De-Carb every 50 hours or Yearly, its a EZ process to de-carb but the Etec is about simplicity and EZ maintenance. The E-TEC is comparable to MOST 4 strokes for decibels at Idle, quieter than some running, its virtually smoke free, like all internal combustion engines it has exhaust but no Blue smoke or Chugging, its simply the Smoothest 2 stroke in terms of runnability and shifiting, NO Clunk or grind sound when changing from neutral to reverse or forward. 3yr non declining factory warranty, 2 year factory extended warranty thru April 15th, also their may be some cash back so check Evinrude.com for those Spiffs. The 200 HO is really a Sweet motor, built on the same platform as the 225 HO or 250 Etec, same 3.3liter block, Bullet proof, That model has the Lightining 2 lower unit, it has way stronger gears and cleaner metal in the gears than most, BRP had some lower unit issues that were inherited from OMCs bad years, their is really nothing to worry about with the 200 HO, early 225 HOs had some issues, but never the 200, same goes for Yamaha and Mercury, Flyswatter and I were just speaking about that the other day, 200s are just more reliable than 250s of the same platform, its not working as hard, oh, that motor is truly putting out 220+hp, over 260ft lbs of Torque, its truly the HOTTEST 200 DI These days, the New for 2010 Yamaha 200 SHO has not been tested officially but Flyswatter will help us with that. Got a new to me 2005 PIV w/200 evinrude HO, 26 trophy last spring. Got to the low 70s without any trouble. I love the boat. As far as rough water goes, very good and dry.
Thanks guys, Im going to look at it on monday. I figured Id lure the HO Man out with my post, but I havent found anything to contradict him! Mike
How many rockstars did you have at the show today? My eyes hurt just reading your post.By the way, I left your lady an IM on the BBC.
I am the HO Man, I cant get a avatar to work on my bworner account for some reason so I made HO Man, and HO Man I am. I dont post Lies or Guesses, I do post some opinion, but typically everything I post is fact or seen in the boats I post about. You will love that boat, motor and trailer, all of them are a perfect match, Minus those damn red accents, ha,ha,ha….call me Brannon or HO Man anytime Buddy. Brannon Im also Interested in some other details so call 920-295-2069Your Signature …
Brannon, I knew that was you, I was just saying I knew Id get an answer from you. I appreciate your advice, my only hold up is having 2 boats till spring, I just got my Jags update finished this fall. The only thing left was to repower, but my Opt only has 250 hours on it and is still running perfect. Mike
I had a 2004 with a 200 HO DI. It ran the best with a 26 tempest. 73.6 one spring in a boat race with a buddy that had a p4 with a 200 opti.C.O.D. Jr. III
Im sure if you gave the BCB dealer a deposit, and did all required paperwork by April 15th, then you should be OK. Thats what Ive been doing for 7 consecutive Boat Show seasons, and a Used Jaguar, Please, that will sell pretty quick Im sure. Im DEAD SERIOUS on those Cowl stickers though…….Good luck Budddy….Your Signature …
