My 1995 Pantera seems very slow to get up when taking off. It has 225 Mercury EFI with a hydraulic jack plate with no gauge and a 27 pitch Tempest prop. Since Ive only run the boat once I have been dropping the jack plate and trimming all the way down to take off. Is it possible to have the prop too low? Is there a good place to start with the prop? Im thinking the centerline of the prop should be at least even with the bottom of the pad, if not 1-2 inches below the pad.

it is possible to be too low. try going 1/2 up annd 3/4 up and taking off. also can adjust pvs plug setups in prop or go to a smaller prop. How many rpms turning on topend?

Doubt you will get much help from the factory. I think 225 is more than rated HP….Typically 3.5 inches below pad is a good place to start.

I havent had it wide open but the previous owner told me it runs ~ 6200 rpm at WOT. Ive seen it at 6000 when I test drove it with him. The 27 pitch prop sounded large to me. I would have guessed a 24 pitch would have been the ticket. Previous owner was looking for top end rather than hole shot. Id gladly trade some top end for the ability to get on plane easily. Ill try running the prop shaft at 3″ or so and see what happens. If adjustments dont work Ill discuss prop options with my local prop guy. GL1, your right, the boat is rated for 200 HP. Guess thats why the motor has 200 HP stickers on it.

I dont think youd have to go to a 24 pitch, Id bet a 25 Fury would be perfect for your setup, and give you a good hole shot and top end.
