Im looking for a late 90s – early 2k Pantera. Unfortunately there arent many in this area, so Im hoping that someone will be willing to answer some of the questions I could answer for myself with boats more common to this area with a trip to a local ramp. What is the rear deck storage like on Panteras of this vintage? Im 64″. What is the leg room like under the console? I will be adding a Hotfoot if the boat I buy doesnt have one. Did Panteras of this vintage come with jackplates & hydraulic steering factory installed? Thanks very much in advance. Pete
The original BCB method is no rear deck storage and larger rear livewells. The storage on vintage P2 models is located under the seats intel large compartments and a cooler in between the seats. There is one rod locker, one front storage and a right hand storage, separated from the console by a tackle storage shelf offset. Some later models have a day use glove box also on 95 through 98 models. These also have recessed foot controls. These were great boats and led many equipment and innovations from their creation in 88, along with the Sabre
I had a 96 Pantera II and I am 603″ My boat had a Hot Foot and I had absolutely no problems with leg room at all. I did not hit my knee on the console and never felt cramped at all. That is not the case with other boats in the same size range. As with everything else they do, BCB thought this out before these boats went into production. As far as storage is concerned…I personally like the storage under the seats as opposed to the rear deck. I fished by myself most of the time and it was nice to me to be able to lift the seat to my left and throw a cap in or a marker bouy. The storage was more than adequate for me and much more convenient than rear deck storage. Of course opinions vary and I am only offering mine. I would venture to say that most guys on this board prefer the rear deck storage but I might be wrong. Either way…get a Cat and no matter where the storage is you will be hard pressed to find something on the boat that you do not like. Jason
This is a 2002 Pantera Classic. Im not sure if you are looking at a Pantera Classic or Pantera II, but I thought Id show you some pictures of my storage. Lots of storage up front and under the seats, but no rear storage. My livewells are huge, and I have dual rear gas tanks. Im about 63″ and I dont have any problems with leg room. I dont have a hot foot so I cant give you an opinion there. I also have cable steering and a 6″ Slidemaster manual jackplate. Hope that helps.Kent Kent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
I have owned 89 p2, 90 p2, 94 p2,96 p2 and a 05 cougar, I am 6ft with to big of a belly and the 96 p2 was a little stretch to the steering wheel for me. and the under seat storage I love, with plenty of room up front.Just my 2 pennies worth……. I havent had a bad one yet.
Thanks very much guys! I really appreciate the information. Kent Thank you for the pix. They are extremely helpful. You have one gorgeous rig – I hope I didnt ruin my keyboard by drooling all over it! Will the rod locker on your boat hold a 7 rod? Since my budget might allow me to consider a 1999 – 2001 Pantera I correct in assuming that means either a Classic or a P3? Is layout & storage on the P3 the same as the Classic of those years? What is the access to bilge pump(s). batteries, etc like on those boats. Thanks Pete
I fish with all 7 ft rods, and Ive had as many as 13 in the rod box with no problems. I could put more in there, but thats all the rods that I have. The layout and storage will be different with the Classic and the P3. Im not that familiar with the P3, but others might help you with some descriptions of their P3. The access to bilge pumps and batteries is very easy on my Classic. Thanks for the compliments. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
That is one nice looking cat Kent!
Thanks Lee. Youve got a sharp boat as well. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
The layout of a P3 is very similar to that described above by bcb. There is a passenger side rod locker, then a day box next to a large mid deck storage compartment, then a drivers side storage compartment split from the console by a shelf for a tackle box. The deck is considerably larger than a classic and it also has a step up cooler to the front deck. Plenty of leg room in the P3. Also, I can easily fit a 710″ rod in the rod locker so your 7 footers will be fine. Matt
