Does anybody know of fish weight charts, used for converting Lg. & Sm.Mouth size to pounds? Example: 15 in. Lg.Mouth = 2.50 Pounds Thanks

I could be wrong on this but if I rememeber correctly the formula for a Largemouth is : Lenght x Length x Girth. I think you have to move the decimal over about three places too. Never knew one for Smallmouth but the one I gave you for Largemouth is pretty darn accurate best I remember. Lenght = tip of nose to tip of tail Girth = widest part of belly. Hope this is right and can be of use!

a 14″ fish on paper weighs 1.47 lbs 141/4″ weighs 1.55 I am the TD for our club and can fax you a copy of what we have received from the Texas Parks & Wildlife dept.

What you are looking for is called “Conditioning Factor” it has a length/weight ratio based on the local fish health it also varies from state to state and also within some states. Contact a local state fish biologist or federal biologist if you have one. They should have one or put you in the right direction to get one. Some just use the one found in most Fish Hatchery Mgt books. I fished a club once like that and they had one made up for fish from 10″-15″ by 1/4″ increments. Our club uses a 3lb weight (exact wt. pipe with a hookeye) We weigh with electronic scales and calibrate on the 3lb wt at weigh in every tournament. We subtract or add ounces depending on calibration. The problem with measuring inches is that we see 12″ fish that weigh 1.5 lbs and 14″ fish that barely weigh a pound. Our system works really well for us. Bill Hawkins

Our club uses the GOLDEN RULE WEIGHWASTER from Gatorgrip. This ruler includes the weight based on the length. The partner is competing against you, so this is not a problem…just need someone to make sure the old eyes are reading it right. The tournament directors verfiy the lengths/weights of each competitors fish and then we call it a day. Over the course of the year, a 12″ fish will vary in weight, but that will balance out for the most part. We have been using this approach for 20+ years and it has been working very well for us. The real trick is that we arent dealing with any big bucks here…its just pride and our Top Six fishermen award.
