SwampCat just took his off of his P-4. Do a search, I think he posted pictures a while ago. His boat fishes much larger now. From what he told me it was a few hours of a lot of elbow grease but you wouldnt know he had one unless you were looking for it (theres a couple of plugged holes). The only negative is it sure is windy being a passenger now.
I bought a 2009 Puma FTD and removed the dual console. Its not too difficult, but it takes a little time. As mentioned, you will have to plug the bolt holes, and I had some minor rash from removal. I had my local fiberglass shop buff it and touch it up, but it would have been fine left alone. I wouldnt let it keep me from buying the boat, if it is a good fit otherwise. Good luck…
Thanks for the heads up. I guess I never found this in my previous search. It doesnt look bad at all with the console removed. This makes the decision a little easier for one of the Pumas Im looking at. Thanks again!
Just be sure to take your time on the removal.
my classic i bought is a duel console but it has not seen it in a couple years
Just wondering if anyone has removed their passenger console themselves. Would you do it again? Does anyone have any “after” pics? Im looking at a boat with dual consoles and I want see if its a big deal to remove or looks bad when its done. Thanks…..
2012 and up you could get a removable console with out the bolts and glue.
Even the ones that are bolted and glued in will come out without much fuss. Do a search on here and over on bassboatcentral.com There are quite a few guys that have taken them out and covered up the bolt holes. I have a 2013 with the removable console and it works well, I keep it out 98 percent of the time.
Mike, is there a way to know if it is glued in or removable. I assume you have to unbolt even the removable ones?
The removable ones have 4 special made latches that you just turn the handle and they lock in place. If there is a 6″ acess cover on port side by passenger rod storage you can acess the bolts to remove the older console.
Removing one isnt hard at all. 2 hour job start to finish.Other than the basic tools youll want a plastic razor (to remove residue from the silicone) and some type of cleaner to remove it, and some type of plug for the 6 bolt holes. Its not bad, and it doesnt stick out as an eye-sore once its complete either. Did one on a friends P2 and theres nothing to it. No wires (unless you have a radio in the passenger console or lights in the passenger glove box). Dont this deter you from a dual console as it will have its positives too. Remember its probably an $1100 add-on option when ordering. It may or may not help with the sale but its nice to have and it may make the difference in someone choosing your boat over another when selling. In the winter if you decide you want it back in youve got the option, and once you remove it once youll know its not a big deal. It would be a smaller job the 2nd time once youve done it before and know exactly how it all goes in and out. And if youre determined youre not ever putting it in and dont care about the availability of it when selling, sell it outright and use the money for graphs, poles, or even just fishing gear…not a big deal. Theres a market for them for people who do want them and didnt get it when ordering.Just my thoughts on it anyway.Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)
