BCB. Just curious; with Mercury bringing out the Pro 200SX, what kind of performance numbers (i.e., speed, hole shot, gas mileage) should we expect on the Pantera boats(Classic, PII & PIV)?
My understanding is that hanging the “Pro XS” tag on the 200 Opti is more a marketing move than a change in product. The 200 Opti is a stout motor in its own right, and I do not think we will see any appreciable performance gains. If I am incorrect, I am sure someone will be along shortly to tell me what an idiot I am……..
The 200 Opti was already a 220 max. hp outboard. There were subtle changes and the conversions were not on top end. The engine is really the same engine fundamentally. So expect the same numbers on top end as other previous 200 Mercs.
True on the power, but there should definitely be benefits for a high speed boat, i.e. 1. Torque Master gear case with fat shaft 2. Much stiffer engine mounts
No markdille, 1. The TorqueMaster gearcase is not on the Pro XS Series on the present production in any size. There is a premium on some of the Torque Master cases now, though present production is all the newer easy shift Verado style. The 225 and 250 have this case also and the standard propeller shaft in present production. We have acquired a limited number of TorqueMaster engines and they are committed. 2. The mounts are not semi solid as on the larger engines.
