I am trying to decide on graph upgrades. Im going with Lowrance Carbon 9 at the bow (likely on Ballzout mount). On the console, my mounted HDS 7 still works fine but I am either gonna remove the 7 and put a console mounted ( hopefully with a Sherms mount) Carbon 12 or keep the 7 and add a Ballzout mounted Carbon 9 beside the console and run dual at console (Hds 7 and Carbon 9… could possibly also do this configuration with a 12 instead of 9… still running both). First, can a Carbon 12 be mounted with Sherms mount in place of my Hds 7 centered on the console? It seems I would have a hard time seeing the trim and fuel gauges if I put it there. Second what are pros and cons of running dual graphs at the console? Third, running duals, is the 12 that much of an advantage over a 9 when scanning?Im planning on getting the 3D transducer (think it is the HDI one) for the TM bow graph but will likely run the new one at console on the old LSS-1 all networked thru the Structure Scan Box… am I missing out on anything running it this way? I want to make sure my Is well spent. Thanks.
Not a carbon but a hds 12 gen3 on a sherms mount. I have a 9 at the bow. I like my 12 and see no need for duals at the console. Some may disagree. I have no problem seeing
Is your view of the fuel and trim gauges obstructed by the graph? Might not be a biggie as the fuel is something you only really care about when running low…. which I rarely get below 1/4. I dont really use the trim gauge as I know when my boat is running where I am at on trim independent from the gauge.Sorry for dumb questions… So my boat is a 2013 PII that had factory equipped two HDS7s (bow/console non-touch) with Structure Scan box and an LSS-1 & thru-hull transducer and TM mounted puck. With the new Carbons, I see they have 3D capability but the bundles including the 3D capability are a more. I assume it requires a different transducer than I already have. I was planning on getting the 3D bundle/transducer for the bow and replace my puck on the TM. Question is, without replacing my factory installed thru-hull and/or LSS-1 I would not be able to get 3D on the console graph right? Also how was it installed from the factory… meaning did the LSS-1 and thru-hull transducers connect to the Structure Scan box then the units are connected to the box to receive the feed? Sorry Im trying to figure all of this out to see how I will need to wire my new ones. I am planning on upgrading the power cable for the graphs so I will already be running wires…. just prefer not to have to run more than needed. Thanks
I have 1 larger unit on this boat. On the previous boat I ran 2 smaller units. I really liked that setup. If the 7″ birds had the features/screen preprogram buttons I would make a mount to stack 2 of the 7″ units. Side by side covers too much dash area but one on top of the other would work well I think.
Mine is a 13 p2 as well as far a the view i dont consider my view obstructed in no way. As far as to your question about the 3d tranducers and such i would post these questions over on the bbc board in the lowerance sonar section. Thete are some pretty savey folks over there!!. As far as my sherm mount originally i had it made for a hds gen 2 8. I modified it for the 12. As well as “beefed” the provided gimbal mount to prevent vibration. I had some pictures of this modifocation but was lost in yuku when the tapa talk tranformation took place.
New dilema. I think I have decided to keep my HDS7 mounted in the console and add a Carbon 12 beside the console on the side. I started to look at the BallzOut mounts and at my console area. I cant find a good area to mount it there. I know there are some PII owners that have either a BallzOut or Ram mounted unit on the side of the console. If someone could post a few pics of the mount (location, mount, etc) and let me know if you had/have any issues. Any advice would be beneficial. Thanks for all the BCB owners that help.
Several issues here.1. No 3-d through hull, if you are talking about the traditional glue it in the bilge option.2. the totalscan transducers are ginormous, if you know that word. 🙂 I just converted to Lawrence on my classic. I mounted the rear transducer on the jack plate. 3. For the TM, I also used the totalscan transducer, and blew $250 on a transducer shield. Thing fits the transducer and MK Maxxum Pro perfectly. But $250? (shipped to my house, standard shipping which is pretty quick).4. I am installing one in the dash, and am going to use a “puck” glued in the bilge, plus a 9 to 7 pin adapter cable to make it work (no 9-pin puck transducers made by Lawrence). I have the bow and side-console units installed and working. Waiting on the 9-to-7 cable before I add the center console unit. One thing I like about the Lawrence units is their physical size. The Lowrance units are physically smaller for the same screen size (I went with 9″ at the console, 7″ at the bow as it sits down in the recess nicely and I did not want it sitting up on any sort of pole-type mount. I am going to put (already have it) a 5″ in the console for running down the river. A 7 might have fit but I didnt want to make it that complicated. I replaced 998/958 humminbirds that are significantly bigger case-wise, smaller than the 9″ Lowrance display. So a gain all around.Miss Lakemaster, but navionics+ is not terrible. Only had it on the water for an hour with the new Lowrance stuff so still getting familiar with their imaging stuff. Initially does not look the same as the birds, so that will take some education. See more detail in places, but less in others… Jury is still out. However, my decision was made based on “clunkiness”. Those old bubble switches are simply not worth a flip. My old bow unit was almost impossible to power down due to an unreliable power switch. If you used one of the three “favorite” buttons, 75% of the time, rather than going to your favorite screen, it would re-program itself so that the favorite button now shows whatever was on the display when you pressed it and it “stuck”. Cant guarantee that the touch screen is any better yet, but it cant be any worse. And so far, everything works flawlessly. BTW if you buy soon, you get a $100 rebate visa gift card for each unit, up to three…
