PIV Co-Angler Rod strap

I recently bought an 05 P4 There is no rod tie down for the co angler. Is this normal? If not, where is the best place (and type) to mount it. Just wanted to get an idea what others have done.

i do believe no rod strap is required… when i have a partner over there, the rods stay in place, no problems

You can add one for rough water. It is standard on 09 models of Premiums.

My 04 P4 had one added by the guy that owned it first. He used a simple bungee from BCB. Screwed down a loop about 2-3″ medial to the gunnel towards the bow end of the rear box lid and ran the bungee about a foot toward the middle of the boat. Works great! Small hook built into the bungee locks in and out of the loops that you screw in. I feared it would flex rod tips too much but it does not. This way you dont have to drill into naked glass face on the side of the hod holding location. If you screw this way up at least youve got carpet around to cover your tracks.C.O.D. Jr. III

this year in texas, every tourney i been to, be it a club or open tourney, it has been rough water. 20 – 30+ winds in the 06 p4. like i said further up, i have no problems with my partners rods staying secure. last partner even had 10 of them over there. maybe it is the driver??

Driving? I like having it because if your coanglers reels are sitting on the glass down there the sides and bottom of that area doesnt get all beat up when the tips are secured down. Also use it when trailering if rods are left there. Sure they wont likely blow out but the addition of the strap is nice to have- The strap exists on the new boats for a reason.C.O.D. Jr. III

Along the same lines…has anybody ever put any of the black padding on the rod ramp beside the seats to keep the rod tips from scratching up the gel?

Ward, I think I might know what your saying maybe, drilling in the glass was my main concern and why I posted. I was thinking of of fastening a strap to the front edge of the storage compartment behind passanger seat and then some how to the hand rail? Looking into other (better) possibilities aswell. I still fish as a co-angler sometimes and that little strap = peace of mind!

Borrowed from Sherms website. Looks like the same strap for the rear lid.
