I cant really decide if my next BCB will be a Puma or another Pantera. For you guys that have the PIV model. Is the front deck wider than the Classic, and what about the ride? I know the PIV is slightly longer, so Im assuming it has a different hull.I would like a little more front deck width, but not sure I really need a Puma. Want yes, need no.Thanks, Al
I have a P4, and have ridden ONCE in a classic. The P4 has a bigger wider front deck with more storage. To me, the ride was better in the P4. The Classic was faster, though the hole shots seemed about equal, but as stated, my Classic experience was one ride.
Al,I have had both. The P4 has a much wider front deck than the classic. The beam is about the same on both but the P4 carries the width further forward hence the wider front deck. I have a sabre ftd now just due to garage space. The P4 is the ultimate boat as long as you dont need/want a 20 plus footer. Plus, the deck layout on the P4 is the is pretty close to the same as the puma. Hope it helps.
The PIV is great all around boat. The ride is incredible for a 19 foot boat you would think that you were in a 20 footer. If setup up proper you can get 70s out of it. My best friend has a classic and it is faster by about 4-5 mph but then again you sacrifice some storage space. He says that he wishes that he would have looked harder at the PIV, but he still loves the classic. The front deck is actually wider than the Puma I think I am right on this, but if not someone correct me if I am wrong. The other thing with the classic is that it rides bow high where the PIV rides straighter or flatter. Either one are great boats and I dont think that you could go wrong with either one so good luck and hope that you join the family it is great to be part of it.Good Luck!Robbie
FireIsHot,If you can swing for the fences and get a PIV I would do it in a heart beat. You can fish any tournament anywhere with that rig. The boat will do 68-72mph and a bit faster in the Fall and Winter.I just sold a PIV and would own another in a heartbeat. It has storage and layout similar to the PUMA. The Front Deck fishes as big as a 20 boat and the ride is incredible. Not taking anything away from the Pantera Classic. Its a great boat too. The price point is incredible for a 19, and is faster then the PIV. Also, the fit and finish is as good as the any Basscat boat including the Jaguar. You cant go wrong with either boat so pull the trigger and join the family. You will experience why so many are moving over to BassCat. Good luck, keep asking questions and be prepared to get immediate answers.Flyswatter
Thanks guys, I guess should have said Im in my 2nd Classic, and loved them both. Ive been fishing front and back, and was mulling some 1 or 2 day tourneys, and was Jonesing over a wider front deck. I fight shoulder injuries and very rarely cast over-handed. I feel like the wider deck would allow 2 people to fish up front a little more comfortably, without me having to change my casting style.Everything you guys have said is what I thought, but I just havent seen that many PIVs around here. You know how we are in Texas. If BCB made a 25 boat wed have them, so Pumas and Cougars are what seem to be most common rig around here. Thanks for the info, it was exactly what I needed to know. Al
FireIsHot, The P4 is gaining some real popularity in the most recent years. People seem to have understood what we built it for more since the financial crunch. When we built it, people wanted a 225 on it, though since the economy collapse the understanding is there for some. BCB
