BCB,I have a 2012 Eyra and am about to swap my tire/rims from the 20″ Boss to the 18″ Bass Sport rims. I would like some advice on what PM I should do while I have the tires and rims off. Below are my questions/concerns:Going from these:to these:1. The diameter on the tires I currently have on the Boss model 335, 20″ rims ( FALKEN FK-452 : 255/35ZR20 97Y XL) are 27″ while the tires on the 18″ Bass Sport rims (COOPER DISCOVERER H/T PLUS : 255/55R18 109T XL) are 29″. That will effectively reduce my clearance/travel under the fender by 1″. Please confirm if there is any adjustment I need to make to the fender to accommodate the larger diameter Cooper tire. Reason I ask, Ive noticed that BCB installs a different fender on those coming from the factory with the Bass Sport rims as OEM. What is the difference in that fender besides the cut away center step? Does it have greater depth for travel or is it mounted higher to account for the 29″ diameter tire?2. I plan to get the new tire/rims balanced prior to install. While I have access to all four hubs, what PM should I do to the brakes, hubs, axle? Ive never had any issues with the 20s and they tow/track great, have plenty of rubber left on the Falkens and I hope to sell them after the swap. Ive always liked the look of the Bass Sport rims since they were introduced and have a great opportunity to get a set for fathers day. Excited to get them mounted.
3 Years old ??? — Time for service IMHO . — I service my trailer annually . — The last thing I want at 4:30 in the morning is a trailer bearing failure !!! — Just makes good sense to do it while its apart . — The only thing that would change my mind would be if you had Vault hubs , in which case you just check the brake pads and go on if theyre still in good shape . — Cant help you on the tire clearance thing . — Just be sure they dont rub on the inside sidewalls when traveling . — Hoss
It appears at you will sufficient height clearance, what are the differences in width?Purchased new 5/4/15Bass Cat Sabre Vision EliteMercury Pro XS 150MotorGuide 75lb Tour EditionHumminbird – Stock (will be changing soon I hope)
I would say check the operation of your brake calipers and make sure they are not sticking, check the brake pads and you should have Vault hubs on that trailer so the bearings I would say you can leave alone. Also, I have seen the bass sport rims on other trailers with the fenders that both you and I have and it looked like they had plenty of clearance. I think you will be fine on that, but you could always go with a slightly lower profile tire if you were that concerned. One thing for sure is that Eyra is gonna look fine with those new wheels. The wheels will clear fine and we would be pleased to work on the pricing for you. There is no service required for up to ten (10) years with five years of factory warranty, AS LONG AS you dont touch the Vault system. You also can extend the warranty through the ten (10) year period with an extended warranty fee.
Can I upgrade my 2009 Cougar tandem trailer to the Vault system?
We dont see a reason to update the trailer as you will be breaking the seal either way on the factory unit. Can you, yes! Should you, Not in our opinion. Replacing the rear seal and repacking bearings is what we would do. BCB
BCB,Got the rims and tires! Ive mounted one and noticed that while there remains plenty of clearance (height and width towards inside of fender), the tire does extend about 1-1 1/4″ outside of the fender. Again width on inside of fender is find and vertical travel is fine…just wondering about gravel or rocks catching now outside of the fender. Is there anything I can or should do? Dont see a way to adjust the fender. I guess that is why you guys came out with the new fender for these tires…assume they are a little wider??? Reminder, this is mounted on a 2012 Eyra that was manufactured in and around July 11.
