Please lord, Guntersville
Me and my dad were going to get a new bass cat after the OI, until we heard about this. I mean how many years has it been at Lake Norfork??? Its tradition. All the resorts, businesses and community know once year all the kitties come rolling in and some of them probably depend on it. I know BCB talking about rotating but im sure that will change eventually if it goes through. I just wonder whats the reason for this, is (almost) 500 boats not enough? I think thats pretty good for these rough times. Im not voting for Lake Norfork just because I was born and raised in Mtn.Home, but what other boat company invites you back to the town where your boat was made and treats you like famiily.Wormthrower, There is no doubt that we love the Twin Lakes area, and thus we have held this event here for 24 years. It has been a boon to several aspects of the local economy for decades. Though mostly at a cost to BCB, and not the Twin Lakes area. In the recent several years, we have seen a stagnation in our participation on newer boats. Mountain Home is not our largest new boat market by far. There are several markets that significantly outperform the Twin Lakes area. The comments on businesses, yes we do understand. Though they have little injected into the event. Some do donate a prize for the Ladies Coffee, and there are other individuals and organizations who totally support the event. Though financially it is a strain on BCB, and not the Twin Lakes area. The gains are not for BCB as the event is a cost and not a matter of income. The Chamber of Commerce does not financially support the event and has only on a limited basis in the past. The Bomber Booster Club uses this as a major fund raiser. Other clubs and civic benefits have also seen gains from the event. Though we are not gaining as a company on this and we are trying to cater to the masses of newer boats. We have received several comments on why individuals would like to catch more fish. They understand it is a level playing field, though it also is a difficult reservoir, which usually plays into the hands of more local talent. This is also a detriment to the draw to the area for the event on returning participants.Pending we do move the event to another location, the rotation is to be continued semi annually. We do not intend to evacuate Mountain Home and the benefit of the vent for the area. Though we wish the area were in a better position to support the event differently. The are many factors on this. We hope you and your family understand we are only trying to improve the event. Also odds are it would go to a Friday and Saturday event if we move it if elsewhere. This would make it easier on those who can easily make it to MH, though AL would be a drive. Mtn. Home is the heart of Bass Cat always has been. If considering a moving keep it local and rotate between Bull Shoals and Norfork.
I grew up on Norfork (live in Cabot, AR now) fished quite a few BCIs and got to fish this one, my first in quite a few years. I voted Guntersville. I can see it as an excellent way for Bass Cat to expand their market base, and for me personally? Ill drive a few hours to fish Lake Fork, or Lake of the Ozarks or Grand Lake in OK ….. Ill dirve to CO and elk hunt or KS and deer hunt …. its 400 miles and a couple of nights in a hotel and the experience would be incredible I think. Change is good guys and its only every other year, Lake Norfork still hosts every other year for Bass Cat owners !Last edited by stealthycat on May 15th, 2010, 9:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I think gunteraville woud be a good change for the tournament .Rotating around would be good for marketing .When all the locales see first hand on how the boat owners feel about ther boats and witness the performance of these boats. They will be amazed, especially with the prizes!!!!!
I noticed that only 13 teams had a 2 day limit. That is BAD considering how many boats there were. There was, I believe 113 teams that didnt weigh a fish. I believe that there would be more folks fish if they knew that there was a good possibility that they would catch more fish. I vote for moving to a lake where everyone can catch more fish. Guntersville sounds great. I would go to Guntersville next year but I dont believe I would go back to Norfork. Beautiful lake but hard to catch quality fish. I live near Houston and the drive to Guntersville would be about the same distance for me.
Lake Norfork is a very enjoyable palce to have a tournament, it would be a lot more enjoyable to all the participants if we were allowed to weighin 12″ Kentuckys or spotted bass , you can catch a lot of spots that are 14 and they weigh close to 2 lbs. More people could bring in limits and at least make them feel they are participating with all the locals (ARK) that seem to dominate the money list, even tho they dont always win.JUST MY 2C WORTH, SAMSam, It is our understanding that the Arkansas Game and Fish may be going to a 15″ Spot limit also.BCB Maybe, but previous years not so- there are too many small fish now- need to remove some. Guntersville. I live in New Bern, NC
Guys had a great time at the 2010 OI; but of course the fishing was very tough to me. I understand the big differences but think Guntersville would be a blast. I was almost astounded when Rick made the announcement last Thursday night. Of course, I only live 25 miles from the Big G!
