power pole or minn kota talon

I am looking for some feedback on the pros and cons of both the power pole and the talon. I am trying to decide which 8 pole to hang on my “new to me”08 Cougar FTD. I have noticed that the pricing on each is quite similar in most cases however, I did locate an 8Talon on Ebay for right around $1200 .P.S.- not trying to start any “MINE IS BETTER THAN YOURS” debates

I have a friend with the Talon, I bought the Power Pole after I talked with him, he recommended the PP and has since removed his Talon and gone to Power Pole. One of the issues was getting under low bridges, you can just lower the power pole where with the Talon you have drop the mount. If you call Rich at Hydrillagear.com, he has a sale going on for the Power Poles. I really liked the idea of all electric vs. hydraulic, but after I looked at both, I bought from Rich.

There is no option for most. Both have their purposes if you dig into it and compare your needs. The ability of Talon to easily conert to other boats for multiple use is one thought. The long term durability of either is still a question for us.

I dont have either and actually carry a stick-it for when I want to anchor in shallow water. It was less then $100 shipped to my door ( http://www.stickitanchorpins.com ). I can tell you that a friend of mine who has a talon says his next boat will have a power pole. My next Bass Cat will have a power pole on it (plus Ill carry the stick-it).

I run a Talon and have used the PP. Both are good and each has its advantages. Yes the PP can lower easier to get under a bridge but if you are not going under low bridges everyday on the water then I think the Talon is the better product. Easier to install (yourself vs dealer install due to hydraulic pumps) $$$ added to the price of the PPTalon deploys faster and is hands free. Yes the new Blade is wireless and you could add a wireless feature to the PP but you are adding more $$$ to cost of PP.PP uses a Hydraulic pump which you must have mounted in the boat. Talon is two wires run to the cranking battery and done. I am considering putting a second Talon on my rig for this season. I believe that the MK Talon is coming out with a new feature on the mount, allowing it to pivot down level onto the back deck for the purpose of reducing height getting into/out of garage and probably under bridges, etc. It cannot deploy that way, but adds another thing to decide on……96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
