Trying to decide if I want 2 Power Poles or 2 Talons. What are the pros and cons for both? I bet someone on here knows the answer.
Ive never had Talons but use power poles. I like power poles for going under low bridges on the water. You can unpin the Talons to lay them down if you need to but the power poles you can do it all from the seat. But others will have different opinoins and more info than me
Man I think everyone will say poles for sure . Im real curious about that 10 talon setup ? I cant decide either ! Poles – proven , hydraulic , wide anchoring stance , less aft weight , wont brake if you take off with them down , common system so you can get help with setup like props , brackets etc..Talons – compact 10 capability , removable , plug and play For me its 8 power pole or 10 talon and I would love to here how these talons are working out ? Affects on hole shot ? Bracket stability ? Talons deployed alarm ? I have enough trouble remembering to pull up the trolling motor . Ha !
Am considering 10 ft. Talon but wanted to get some input on both poles and Talon. I like how the Talon can be folded down for storage in garage.
I have a single 12 ft Talon and I love it!!! It has quick tilt bracket, no need to worry about taking off with it down , it is wired in to your ignition, turn key alarm sounds if down! Mine is side mounted to detwiler plate, no noticeable drop in hole shot!! Lifetime warranty on spike if something should break or mess it up! DRAW BACK- fore some reason mine deployed going down the road?? It tore up the spike pretty good!! No problemFixed under warranty in less than 5 days! The power cable has quick D/c so I do that now to prevent accidental deploy! I WOULDNT TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING
I also have a single 12 foot talon I havent noticed any noticeable drop in hole-shot but I did have three extra 5/16 holes drilled in my 27 Fury because I knew I would be adding a shallow water anchor. I also have mine mounted on the 360 jackplate bracket with the tilt bracket as well. Mine is also wired to sound an alarm when the ignition is turned on. I have also hooked the talon up to a battery cut-off switch after scubaman154 posted his story about the unit deploying while going down the road. I love mine and it has helped in tournaments launching the boat etc. I havent owned poles so I dont really have a comparison but I love the talon so far. I added the wireless foot switch at the bow for added convenienceMike.
I put poles on my boat, was told where I bought and he sells both, that they are both mechanical systems and could fail, but he can generally get the poles going over the phone or same day where the Talon requires ordering parts or sending parts or the unit in for repair. I tend to be an accident looking for a place to happen, so that helped me make the decision. Having purchased I am extremely happy and use them far more than I had even dreamed I would. In the places I fish, if I had to chose between poles and electronics, I would likely sway the pole route pretty quickly. They are handy for docking, retying……the list goes on and on and on.
I have had a single 8 foot Talon on my last two Cats with zero problems. I did not want to jam any more pumps or any apparatus into my battery compartment, nor did I want any hydraulic lines running through there. A leaky line could be pretty messy. Installation on my current boat was easy with the universal mount and I was able to complete it myself in a short time. My previous experience with Minn Kota for another product was superb as well. My next Cat will have the twelve footer (maybe two LOL). I have never had the Power Pole, but I imagine that they are just as good.
I have been reading several critiques of the Talon and noticed several people had trouble with the Talon being stuck in the down position. Anyone out there have seen this problem? Still trying to decide. There are many pros and cons for both Poles and Talons.
There are two reasons I wouldnt own Talons………1. They are butt ugly.2. They rattle more than a baby rattle.I dont know who you plan on purchasing either from, but since you are the conroeman you might want to give Bowden Marine a call. They install both and ask them which they prefer.
