good for nothing other than sight fishing. otherwise keep you money as they are pretty pricey.
The ones ive seen mount to the jackplate, so no hull warranty issues would be involved. Nice for brackish / bed fishing, but otherwise useless in my observations, and very expensive. D.
Any time the wind would blow you and you would have to be on the trolling motor to hold position in shallow water. I have seen it used masterfully to hold the boat while picking apart a weedbed while the wind blew like crazy. No need to be on the trolling motor to hold the boat. That being said, it is big and expensive and may not be worth it.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
I think it would be awesome for a baycat fishing mud flats in the gulf but I dont understand why bass fisherman would have one.
Useless for the price in our opinion. Though if you bed fished in less than 8 of water often or similar fishing, they may be a value. BCB
They look like it would be cool to hold your boat beached at weigh in??????? Eddie http://www.proschoicelures.comEddie http://www.realityoutdoors.net http://www.proschicelures.com
I was talking to a friend who had one and he told me the best use hed found was when he was launching by himself in the wind, he could tie the front end of the boat to the dock and put the power pole down to hold the boat off of the dock. If it saved you from some gelcoat damage, it might justify some of the $1500 cost. We fish a lot of shallow water down here in Mississippi, but my primary concern would be hanging the boat on a stump between the hull and the power pole bracket.
just curious
I have an 8 foot power pole on the back of my 2008 cougar ftd and it has paid for its self over and over this year! It is great for sight fishing as many mentioned but it has many other uses as well. It is great for postioning on boat docks, anchoring at weigh ins, flipping grass mats etc. I thought the only time i would use it was to sight fish but i find myself using it all the time.
Any of you guys experience the poles deploying after say an hour of sitting on their own??? Any ideas where I can start looking to correct this?
I run 1 power pole on my PIV up here in Montana. It takes a little more effort to use one, but it works great. I just figure out which way the wind or current will push me and set up so when the power pole pegs me in, the boat will swing the way I want. Much easier than it probably sounds and doesnt take long to figure it out. Mike
If you can get two. I use the two for alot more than fishing. Herethe lake is down over 12 so no useable docks and shore liness have rocks. I can park and not have to beach. Itll hold position in wind too.
I see some guys make light of us with 2 poles. I have had 3 boats with poles and wouldnt have it any other way. The first boat had 1 pole and I found myself still fighting the wind and current. With 2 it never comes into play. If you fish alot of water less than 7 ft. deep I think 2 is a must. Alot depends on the style of fishing you like. I flip and fish slow. I use my poles more than my locators!! If you are like me you want 2. I suggest starting with one and you will be sure to have a second one installed down the road.
I have a Classic with 2 PPs and IMO thats the only way to go… Last edited by Jake B on November 28th, 2011, 6:52 am, edited 1 time in total. My CatI Am Second
Thanks a lot guys, I especially appreciate the pics it helps me visualize. Does anyone know of a good place to buy a power pole the closest dealer is 100 Miles away. If there was a larger distributor that would ship and help you get what you need that would be great. I like laying things out and installing things myself. As always thanks for helping out.
