Power steering or hydraulic

My boat is a 1996 P2 and i have the cable steering its hard to turn and i am wondering how or if i can put either hydraulic or power steering on it Im worn out by the end of the day fishing from throwing then having to drive or is there any trick to making it easier to turn ?? cables can they be oiled or anything //?/ thanks a Bunch

Your cables can be serviced, and they may be beyond that. We suggest you consider a replacement on the cable steering.

Thanks where can i get that done and how much would it cost . ?? Another Question do you not recommend adding power steering ??

Best thing to do is take it to a reputable dealer/service center. They can offer assistance and have the tools/equipment to perform service safely. I too have cable on my 96 Eyra, and while I would like to try hydraulic, at this point on a boat of that age, you will get a good amount of years going to new cables/lubrication compared to $$$ for hydraulic on that age boat.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

I added Hydraulic steering to my 96 PII this winter and while it was 1200.00 installed it was worth it. I also put a new 200 EFI Merc on it at the same time. I was just like you, by the end of the day my arms were tired. My cables were shot and I mean non-repairable. Sounds like you have the same problem I did. The system without tilt steering was 900.00 and then 300.00 for the unit to be put in. I put 8k in my 96 this year and still want a new Puma or Cougar. Go figure. Good Luck. thanks Guys ill try to make it through the season and maybe see what my options are maybe ill hit the lottery and win big and just to BCB factory and pick me one out LOL . Great information here and makes me proud to be a BCB owner again thanks
