What is a pre cancer mole ?Other than getting it removed, is it somthing to worry about?Tim
Is that how your Dr described it? Actinic Keratosis (AK) is another form of pre-cancer that a lot of fair skinned fisher people suffer from, especially on the ears, nose and the back of your hands. By all means, talk to your Dr. Ive had to use Aldara cream several times on the back of my hands…not much fun!
Most “precancerous” “moles” are what are usually lentigo maligna melanomas. That would be a dark spot that is not a melanoma.Other things similar to this are things like actinic keratoses. Im sure Ive forgotten a few since medical school but this opinion is free and you get what you pay for!Either way its a warning shot that your skin has the potential to make a real one.Call Dorry and get a few hats. I have been a big fan of visors when its hot and ballcaps when it aint. Wear sunblock.C.O.D. Jr. III
Its what the gal on the phone called it.It was removed by a derm but they called and now want to schedule surgery to insure all was removed.I will no longer feel out of place wearing my boonie hat.And yes it does feel like a warning shot was just fired over the bow.Guys wear your sunblock !
And put it on BEFORE heading to the truck on the way to the lake and not after the sun comes up out on the water. The longer the sun block soaks in the better before it is needed.
Wow, how ironic. I am going to the dermatologist Tuesday for a checkup-a lot of sun through the years. John
That means they are abnormal and have the potential to become malignant. All the moles on my body are this classification and please be careful. Keep track of others and possibly have regular yearly checks. I ignored mine that had turned into melanoma way too long. I was still young and invincible, so I wasnt worried about the mole that grew rapidly and bled often when scratched. By the time I got it removed the cancer had spread and was faced with a likely death sentence. I luckily went through a year of chemo and now Im just over 5 years clean.Just a warning to all – It can happen to anyone if you are in the sun a lot like we are.
Even with sun block we need to get annual check ups. Probably nothing everyone doesnt know.Ill put sun block on at the house – dont matter if its going to be sunny or cloudy. (At least I try to remember to). I like the baby no tear kind that is thick and you have to rub it in. always carry sun block chap stick but very seldom remember to put it on in the boat. Perhaps this post will make me think to.
Guys use sunscreen had black mole on my back had it removed ony to find out it was melonoma stage1 had not spread had to have a big chunk of skin and meat removed to make sure that it did not spread. Have to go to the Dr three time a year to be checked for more cancer moles. USE SUNSCREEN PLEASE !!!
I also have had skin issues with the sun. I also had this stuff removed by a Dr.After that, I made the decision to wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, Dr. Shade gloves, and a Dr. Shade head covering when out in the sun like we are. It sounds like overkill, but it is not. Youd think it would be hot, but it is not. When the sun is not directly on your skin, youd be surprised how cool you are…..especially if you start with these garments on your body before the sun gets up.My grandfather was a farmer. He was in the hot sun all day long. My father is a grading contractor (on a backhoe and Caterpillar loader) and is in the sun all day. Both always wore/wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, and big hats, all day long, regardless of temperature…….and both have always told me that Id be cooler if I did the same. They are correct. My father also wears gloves on the machines…..in his youth, he didnt, but the sun got his hands, he also went to the Dr. about that, had it fixed, and now wears gloves like me.My typical fishing partner laughed at me when I first donned the gloves and head gear. He called me “the human torch”. My brother also laughed at me the first time or two and said I looked like I was going to fight a fire. Within a trip or two, when they looked like lobsters and I was still white, they didnt say much.Take my word or it, just like the guys above, wear sun screen and clothes to protect against the sun.I also have purchased some of the stretchy things, in the past, that can go over your head and neck like “Big Ole Pig Man” wears (I was wearing those years ago). I like them for protecting your neck, but they are aggrivating to me on the ears, mouth and nose. I like the Dr. Shade better.
