I havent had a boat for several years, and I am seriously considering getting one. I am not tied to one brand or another, I am just looking a quality boat at a good value. I do not think I want anything smaller than 19. I dont think I want a new boat, I think I would rather have a larger pre owned boat. From say 2001 thru 2006 are there any particular models and or years I should look for or stay away from? And am I better of buying a preowned 20 boat than a new 18?
It is all a matter of you making a decision on the boat set up the way you want it. Just select the engine and sizes you want and try to stay where you will be happy. There are no years in these ranges to show preference for one year over another. There are some design differences which will give you a choice to got your style if not your budget.
I would look for something with warranty remaining on the outboard. There are several for sale on this site under the Bass Cats for sale tab. Also look at http://www.impactfishing.com. You will find lots of really nice well maintained Cats on their as well. Good luck and hope you become a member of the Bass Cat family.
Crowbar, when the boss said I could get a boat,I spent about 3 weeks researching . Mostly on the internet, if you read this page and bass boat central (BBC) and a few others , the decision proccess is alot easier . Go into the owner likes and dis likes, there are alot of clues there as to who builds a good boat & trailer. Just like Ford ,Chevy, Dodge, there is bias. But the cream will rise to the top. You wont find the perfect boat, it,s still waiting to be built ,but you can find people who are triing alot harder than others to build it! With that said ,motor warranty would be the next concern as stated before ( bamma96) . Buy the way I was boatless bank trash for 9 years before I bought my new 2 me 07 puma 250 pro xs! Lost my last boat in a bad wind storm ,when you have time I can tell you alittle about what insurence not to get !!! 9years boatless whith full replacement coverage! Lets just say your better off in your own hands…
Right now there are a lot of good deals from Bass CAt Dealers on new 08 models. With the Spring Fling Prices and rebates you cant hardly beat the value. Just look up ypur closest dealer for more info.
The boats in the years you mentioned are all fiberglass construction and are as solid as they come. The biggest concern would be the engines. I personally wouldnt buy a DFI engine prior to 2003 without knowing the owner and how it was maintained. Whatever you end up with make sure you have the engine checked out by a reputable dealer. Bama probably has the best idea with making sure it has warranty. I however wouldnt worry to much with any of the EFI engines they have proven themselves to be very reliable. Bad thing is they can all pop. Good luck…you cant go wrong as long as you are in a Cat! Judd Lasiter
Generally how long is the warranty on a Mercury or Yamaha?
I think the out of the box warranty is 3 yrs. I bought an additional 3 yrs on mt opti.Someone else may be able to add more to this. Also Mercury does run specials some time on their warranties. Best check with a dealer or Mercury. Martin
crowbar wrote: Generally how long is the warranty on a Mercury or Yamaha? In the year range you are looking it was 2 year on Yamaha and 3 year on Merc. The Series 2 Yamahas do have 3 just like Merc. Depending on when purchased or if an extended warranty was added most of those wont go over 5 years from factory.
Should I be concerned that the nearest dealer is 130 miles away?
