Wife approved me getting a new or new to me boat in the next year or 2. Im wondering would I be able to get a decently decked out saber Ftd for 35k and under or would a used boat be better in that price range? And by decent Im thinking 175 merc basic hummingbird electronics, mg x5 80lb, hotfoot, hyd jack plate, all the options for the live wells will be fishing tournaments all over Texas and beyond
Just my thoughts based upon classifieds. If you were going to buy “today” you might be able to find a new 2016 model (left over new inventory) that would come close to your requirements. I am not sure many dealers order showroom models with the had jackplate – a few might have the 175. Given the state of the economy (inflation 5 – 7 percent per year) in 1 -2 years a 2019 model with your requirements would not fall inside your range. It would be best to start scanning the classified adds soon and watch for something that comes close to what you want (year range and equipment). You will have a better idea as to what to expect when you are ready to buy. Also keep an eye out for the soon to be released Pantera Classic – it should be geared and priced for new buyers wanting to get in to a Bass Cat.Your Signature …
Just my opinion…I was in the same position last year with a budget slightly below yours around $32-33k. Heres my advice…I wanted first and foremost a boat with warranty. Either new or a newer model boat with factory warranty remaining (on the outboard) because Ive known too many that buy a 7-8 year old boat and have problems right off the bat. Not saying a new boat wont have problems, but at least its covered. Secondly most people will say buy as big as you can afford, and Id agree if it wont “cost” you in other ways. Storing mainly. Some people have wives that dont like the whole garage being taken up by a boat that has to be cocked sideways to fit in a garage, and if you store it off-site its just an added expense that youll get tired of paying for sooner or later. Third – get the options that you cant do yourself or have added easily afterwards. Tilt steering, livewell upgrades, motor size, stereo with speakers built in seats, dual console if desired, compartment lights, and things like that. Other items like graphs, power poles, basic bolt-ons are easily added, changed, and outdated in time. Youll likely change these out sooner or later anyway. 4th – If you buy used have it checked out. Most BCB owners seem to take better care of their boats than some other brands but Id still check it.5th – Get a cover. I know its probably staying inside all or most of the time but it helps a lot. Doesnt have to be a travel cover, it can be a basic shipping cover as they call it.6th – Have fun looking and have patience. Not every boat is perfect and its easy to get to a place where youre frustrated and settle for something you dont want or settle for a boat without the options youre wanting. The Sabres are great boats, the P2 is an even better 1 longer version of it basically that can handle an additional 25hp. P2s in the used market 1-2 years old with warranty can be had within your budget for now anyway. A new Sabre FTD will also fall within your budget. 17 models range $32-39 from what Ive been told but Im sure with the options you can get it over $40 fairly easy if you just add bigger graphs and poles. Thanks for the input guys a p2 is definitely on the list of used boats Id be looking at when are they supposed to release the info on the new classic
Dont wait. Buy it now.
I think the Classic release date is set for next March during the Bassmasters Classic.
one thing you may want to do, is search larger boat dealer websites. Alot of times they have leftover inventory they are not advertising anywhere but their own site. They want to move that inventory, and typically will negotiate pretty good. You may even be able to get a bigger boat/motor for just a few grand more doing it that way. It takes some leg work searching all those dealer sites, but it can pay off well!
Ive been looking around at different sites but its hard to tell what the new boats go for as in a base price
Thats one gripe I have had, and one way I think Nitro has been as successful as they are (outside of the compulsive shoppers with readily available inventory and on-site financing) Pricing is available online, MSRPs are readily available. Some type of “base pricing” would be great for consumers interested in these boats.it would be really great to be able to add options such as trolling motor upgrades, shallow water anchors, and electronics as well as boat options but I know the aftermarket world is constantly changing and with those manufacturers offering different promotions it could very difficult to keep up with and keep current. It would be nice just to know the base price. Some guys add all the extras because they can, others like me just want the boat with a few things that some one like me cant add on themselfs (extra pumps and plumbing for them) I dont mind mounting a trolling motor or graph but drilling a hole into a beautiful brand new boat make me tear up
