Starting problems Each time I start it is is acts like it is starving for fuel. It turns over and over. Second of third try it might try to crank. When it starts it revs high and dies. Then last time it will crank but it aint pretty. If it sits overnight or 20+ minutes this is what happens.*Plugs new (OEM and gapped right), wires all in place, clean fuel filter, intake clean. When idling or running is perfect.*If I immediately try to recrank after a run it cranks immediately.Last edited by jeffharvey2 on June 28th, 2017, 2:39 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Now it cranks over and over and over before it hits off.
Well that is odd. I just got it back from the shop for a compressor failure replacement. Compressor would still turn but was starting to eat belts. Work was done by a great merc certified mechanic with OEM Merc new parts. Plenum was removed and cleaned out, etc.. If you find out cause please let me know. Mine is going to shop end of week. Ill repost with update if they correct it.
It sat for 3 months waiting for the replacement compressor. I only replaced the water separator filter before.
Before you crank for the first time next time you go out, be sure to pump the primer bulb until it is firm. Is it easy to squeeze the first time? There are two check valves inside the thing that lets fuel move toward the motor but not back to the tank. As they get older, they will fail, allowing the fuel to drain from the line. Will take the pulse pump a good bit of time to pull fuel back to the motor, if it can even do that (depends on motor height, fuel level, where the tank is mounted, etc.I would also consider draining the tank unless you put stabil or Mercs quickstor in the tank. Particularly if you run ethanol based fuel. 3 months is a long time for alcohol to sit without beginning to have phase separation.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

I have in my non professional opinion just about ruled mine down to a fuel delivery issue. No warning horns, no sign of a problem, just shutdown. after it died it would crank right back up and idle, but when you cobbed the throttle it just lugged down and died. but would immediatly fire back up. after a couple of attempts it did finally take off again but was obviously not running right, it continued to cut out in the mid range, after about a 1/4 mile or so I was able to baby the throttle back up to WOT. So I took it back and put it on the trailer and Called H2o Monday Morning and dropped it off. Oh and the rub rail insert started coming out again also, it came out from the nose to the rear of the boat on the passenger side. H2o Had used silicone to put it back in the first time I had issues with it and the silicone never adhered to the insert. Muddy, Im thinking Larry will get you fixed up. Hes the “right” guy for the job.
It requires urethane on the insert as silicone will not adhere to the moulding.
I had checked the bulb and it was soft prior to a cold start. I had added a bottle of seafoam to it the last time I ran it and compressor ate up the belt. So based on the good recommendation here of trying the check valves I will do that. It makes the most sense yet.

There is 1 check valve at the motor part 14 below. And I guess at the bulb there are the 2 you mentioned. Hmmm. I will replace all 3 I guess.
