I have a 07 Puma with a Minn Kota 24 volt TM. I am currently on my 4th set of TM Batteries (that are now bad) 3rd Cranking Battery. and 2nd charger. Have tried different brands of batteries (currently Trojens) But can not get a set to last more than a year. Any clue on what could be causing this. I have tried, unpluging the charger, I have tried leaving it pluged in. Bought a new charger, I am out of ideas. With the cost of the batteries they should last longer than a year. I talk to several people who have 3 or 4 year old battiers with no problem. Any advise.

yes, check your input amperage with a voltmeter and see what the amps are in line. Then verify that the charger is shutting off or to a trickle after a charge and check the batteries for a load test when they are hot. BCB

This is certainly unusual! Generally, battery life and “cycles” is based on how deep you discharge before you charge again. For example: a battery that is discharged to 50% capacity and fully recharged will have longer life than a battery that is discharged 75% and then recharged. This is a good reason to get the biggest capacity batteries that can fit in your trays and fully recharge immediately after your battery use. Ensure your charger is fully recharging! If it does not, then you are back to deep discharging again.I suspect that after your day out on the water, you do not charge right away. Something else is left on and deeply discharging your batteries. You then charge before your next trip and all looks ok. However this deep discharge/charge process shortens battery life.Just speculating here on the possibilities. Good Luck

One more thing, do unplug the trolling motor when stored.

It hasnt been mentioned yet, but I assume youre keeping the cells filled with distilled water (assuming youre using wet-cell and not AGM)? If you let the water get below the plates, youre guaranteed to have a bad cell.

Would the charger be covered under my boat warranty. I know the first one was when they replaced it, but apparenty the one they replaced it with is not good as well.

That will depend and your dealer will need to seek approval.

Youncan do the replacement yourself and whether your boat has warranty left or has been transferred if your the second owner.
