Does anyone have Progressive Insurance on their boat? As anyone ever filed a claim with them? After hitting a rock pile Saturday morning, and adding an extra hole to my lower unit, I am starting a claim with them this morning. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with them.
It will depend on your adjuster and if you are in warranty. They have pushed the newer Chinese gear cases in some cases, and they also have made dealers buy the lower units in parts using what they can from yours, if they can. If none are useable, then they have made them do a complete build at the dealership also. The best case is a full factory case manufactured and assembled there.Good Luck in your repairs!
Fight for a factory replacement. You will most likely have to fight w/ them for it. Also, if/when they drop you, check out Boat US. Ive been very happy w/ them and they are getting heavy into supporting bass Ts. Good luck.
I had a claim and it went exactly as BCB said. They tried to get away with using the parts from the lower unit after I hit a rock and cracked the case. They wouldnt even cover the $25 to see if the propshaft was bent. It was. Next time out, it broke. They bought a new lower unit anyway.Didnt seem to make sense but in the long run they are in business to make (save) money. The claim itself was very timely and communication was awesome throughout.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Ive had great luck with Boat/U.S. also. Only one claim years ago but it was a breeze. You talk to someone when you call and they are trained/helpful. They dont handle anything else but boat insurance so they know their stuff. The rates I consider competitive.
I have them and have a claim now when someone broke in my boat and stole all my tackle (~$3500).I thought I had the whole thing covered since it was for the total amount of a brand new boat but it didnt cover the tackle – only the damaged locks. So my claim isnt like yours with damage but the adjuster has been very pro-active. Almost like he was wanting to write the check. He not only put in cost of locks but cost for labor to replace them. Stupid part is it had to be made out to me and the bank (since Im paying notes). I had to endrose the check and send it plus insurance claim, estimates, etc etc to the bank. But the bank wont sign it and send it back till I send in proof of purchase of the new locks. I cant buy the locks till I have the money. I think they call that “Catch 22”. So It looks like Im SOL.
Boat US covers tackle, electronics, other boating equipment such as PDFs, anchor etc. No extra charge and you agree on a value when you take out the policy. Same for the boat/trailer. Ive been with them since 1986 or 87. Oh yeah, they offer an on line boating course good for 10% savings on your policy.
Fortunately, I work about 1/2 mile from a Progressive claims office. They cover western Colorado. It is owned and staffed by Progressive. Have talked to them on numerous occasions. Just being social and making sure they understood the problems associated with boat claims. No claims…yet. They say my policy is as good as gold if “anything happens”.Offered to take a couple of them fishing. Just building a relationship. They have told me one of the big problems in claims adjusting and where an insurance company can get a bad name is through “independent adjusters”. There are good adjusters and then some that dont know the bow light from the motor. All companies have their problems. If I should ever switch companies, it would be to Boat US.Martin
I had a gouge repaired in my hull last year and my adjuster and the adjuster by Mt. Home who over saw my repairs did an excellent job and I cannot complain about them. The man who repaired my boat, Mr. Bobby Sanford who works at Basscat said that my insurance adjusters were about the best he had ever had to deal with.
Thanks so far everything seems to going good, and they are acting fast on getting me back on the water. I have carried the boat to my local Basscat dealer Regal Marine, and they adjust is scheduled to be there Thursday morning to look at it.
