finally got my new boat out on the water this weekend and have a question about my prop and my top end. i dont remember what rpm my last boat was running but i used to be able to run 73-74 with a tournament load on my 07 puma with a 2011 225 pro xs turning a 26p trophy plus. my new boat is a 2012 puma ftd running the motor off my 07 but with a 25p fury and im only turning 5500 with tournament load and 2 people and im only seeing 69 mph. is there that much difference between the two props and what rpm should i be turning?
Maybe your engine is too low. Maybe the throttle isnt going all the way open. Hot foot? There could be a lot of differences between the two props, but not that much. You should target 5800 – 6000 rpms.
it was running fastest all the way down. there was hardly any wind so the lake was not even the slightest bit choppy so i tried running it higher several times but never saw an increase. a few times it ran slower higher up. never let the rooster tail get more than a foot or two about the cowling. im going to slap my 26 trophy plus back on in two weeks when i head back out and see if theres any difference
