Just got a 96 Eyra with a 175 efi. Boat currently has a 25 Tempest. I have a 25 Laser II and a Yamaha 25M. Would either of these be an improvement over the Tempest? What kind of speeds can I expect from this rig and what is a good starting point for engine height? Im thinking 3.25″ to 3.5″ below the pad. Which hull as there were two different options in1996>?

Just talked to the previous owner, he says hes pretty sure its a 2nd version.

Congrats on the boat! There is a bit of stuff floating around just do some searching here. I have a 1995 model with 2004 150 XR6, very happy with mine Im still figuring mine out I think with the right set-up I will see low to mid 60s. You should see mid to high 60s with the 175. Post some pictures of the boat when you get a chance.wil

As soon as I get a chance Ill take some pics & post them. Its a sweet little boat, in excellent condition, tandem trailer, decent electronics. Gel coat is perfect and the seats are in pretty good shape too. Im coming out of a 20 boat and it looks tiny sitting beside it. I have been wanting to downsize for a while and this boat seems to fit the bill perfectly. Im hoping the deep hull will give a very good ride for the length.

You will enjoy your Eyra, I had a 95. You are right on the deep hull, I didnt realize how deep it was until I replaced it with a Pantera. There are some things I miss about the Eyra even though my current BCB is 10 years newer – especially the leg room. I think you are best off running the Tempest of the three you mentioned – just get used to it and decide if it is the right pitch. I wouldnt waste my time with the Laser II (I did that). I never did run a yamaha prop on mine. On the second generation hull we would try a 24 Fury.

Ive run 24 Fury on the 175 EFI and did very well. I now have the 175 ProXS and run a 24 Tempest in summer and 25 Tempest in cooler weather. Just clipped a 71 mph gps with single driver and gear, 1/2 tank of gas, last weekend with the 25 Tempest. You should see mid 60s pretty easy.
