Prop help – 2005 Cougar with 225 Opti

Heard a 26 Tempist Plus is the prop for this setup but also heard the Fury 26 may be better. Help , suggestions ?

25 Fury is probably better, its what im running on my 08 Cougar AE / 225 Pro XS and love the performance !Last edited by dbasketman on November 19th, 2010, 9:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.

If thats a regular Opti and not a Pro XS, Id run the Tempest 26. My partner has a 07 Cougar with regular Opti and his wont turn my 26 Fury…it will turn my 25 Fury, but his 26 Tempest is faster and handles better(including hole shot). Believe it has to do with not having a torquemaster gearcase on his Opti. Try before you buy. My 225 ProXS has the torquemaster gearcase…it turns the 26 Fury near 5800 rpms and upper 70s year round. I also have a 25 Fury, not as fast on top end but carries weight better…runs 74 with livewells full, 30 gallons of gas, and two people over 200 lbs each…hole shot is neck breaking.

It is a regular opti 225, with a 6inc jack plate. So maybe a 26 Tempest but what about the Tempest Plus ? any difference ? What top end are we talking about Clint in your buddies rig ? I assume mid ~75mph The Pro XS has a little more redline (250) and the torquemaster may have better HP delivery to the prop.

I run a 2000 cougar am 300 lbs with a relativly full load 2/3 full tanks and a 225 regular opti. I have a 27 tempest ( I found the 26 hit the limiter too easily) it tops out at 5700 rpm and about 75 on a decent day with 2 people in it. fully loaded middle of the day full livewells I am lucky to see 71. but the hole shot is good and my prop is not in superb condition. The hull may be a little different that yours.I did try a 26 trophy also didnt like that prop either. Also tryed a 27 QIV good on the top end but a real problem out of the hole.I also found out that it comes out a little better when the prop is about 2 3/4″ below the pad (a little higher than I expected)irv

His rig will hit 74.1 with just him in it and half fuel( 26 Tempest). He has a hydraulic plate and carries a good bit of tackle. The 26 Tempest keeps him just under the limiter and has a softer ride than the Fury(I ran his myself with both Furys and his Tempest). He tried both of my Furys…the 26 would only turn 5200 rpms and the 25 turned about 5400 rpms loaded with two people. Top speed with the 25 Fury was 73.7 with just him in it…69.5 with the 26 Fury. My boat has the 225 ProXS with the torquemaster and turns the 26 Fury no problem, his 225 Regular Optimax does not have the torquemaster gear case and does not perform well with the Fury. If you cant try one first, Id say (1) 26 Tempest (2) 25 Fury…but you never know for sure as every motor and setup varies.

I dont think they make anything but a Tempest Plus anymore…his is a Tempest Plus 26.
