I have an 06 Puma with a 250 HPDI. It has a Hydro Jacker jack plate and I am running a 25T Yamaha prop. I get a solid 71 MPH fully loaded at 58 to 5900 RPM and I can squeek out about 73 with just me and half fuel with empty live wells. Hole shot is very good under full load and outstanding with a light load. No issues with bow lift. At wide open throttle there is little to no roster tail but from the time I get on plane untill I reach wide open throttle there is a very significant roster tail that decreases more and more the closer I get to WOT. Power / aceleration is still strong from getting on plane to WOT. I would like to achieve a solid 75 under full load so my question is this? Can I achieve 75 MPH under full load by re-working the prop I have, and if not will a 27T get me there. Thanks for the help.
Despite all the whoopti doo on here regarding speed 75 with a “load” this time of year is not achieved by the majority. To me a load is gas at 3/4 in ALL tanks, livewells with water, 2 guys, tackle in every box, AND a realistic holeshot. Dbasket and i ran his 225 proxs to 73 with that load the other day and passed folks like they were standing still. I guess my points are:1 I dont think you are far from your max2 you can send your prop to a number of guys but ill bet 73 “loaded” is where you will be3 73 in a tourn is fine- top 15% except east tn.4 who cares about the takeoff race anyway. Speed gives me flexibility during the day and gettin back5 most pumas loaded are 74-77 with newer hulls. Eyra 0-3 mph above that. That said…id borrow a 27 from fly, see how it is, then get the 25 worked.Last edited by clownshoes on July 19th, 2011, 3:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
No argument from me. I will be turning my prop in soon to have it cleaned up. It cost me about 200.00 and change the last time. I do not own a spare prop. My thinking is if I have to spend the money any way then now is the time to spend a little more for a good used 27T or a little tweeking to my 25T. Thanks for the input and advice.
I had an 06CougarFTD with a 225 Optimax. I had my prop blueprinted and reworked for more speed, spent $185 and I gained .5mph. Somehow I dont think that was a wise ependiture.
I have a 08 Cougar FTD 250 series II with my 27T1 I can get 77.5 to 78.5 fully loaded, the best i got out of it was 81.2 and previous owner 82.3 light load, but I suffer on hole shot a lil. I am running a 26 Fury no plugs rite now and not very happy with it, hole shot improved but struggling to get 76 fully loaded and bow lift sucks you just cant run it up high like that T1.
I have a worked 27 t-1 and i can get into the upper 70s with one person, full load of fuel and water in the livewell in the south La heat and humidity. Holeshot is sluggish with 2 people loaded but i can run 76 once up. I am running a 25 fury and it blast out the hole and i can get about 74-75 with a 2 person load. The t-1 needs to run real high to make speed the fury needs to stay kind of deep to do it. Soon as i run across a deal on a used 25 t-1 i will buy one to have it worked like my 27.
Dead on. Tweak the 25T in my oppinion and run it higher. Steves custom props.Feel free email at customirrigation@gmail.com
I like the idea of keeping my 25t. Where is steve located? I am in va. I dont know about running it higher. I think I am maxed out. I have a digital jack plate Gage. I run it at 17 / 18 and trim it as needed for water conditions. When I go above 18 to 21 on the Gage and trim it out the prop blows out. It feels like a high speed miss when it happens. Most of my fishing is run and gun so hole shot is very important. Twice a year I have to make 1 hour plus run to get to the quality fish and thats when I need all the speed I can get. Thanks for the info.
PaPaSteve is in Yantis, Texas;http://www.stevescustomprops.com/ I have used him lots of times and he is great! He really know his stuff. If you are interested in a 27T1, I have a great used one I would sell. or trade. I would like to try a 25T1 on my boat.Regards,[email protected]
Ive used Steve. His work is good on Bass Cat hulls. His prop work did not seem to make much different on Rangers, at least two of them.
