Prop question, Basscat, Phil, Sherm,anyone…

I have a 1998 Jaguar with a 1998 Mercury 225 EFI with a hydralic jackplate. I am currently running a 1998 Trophy four blade 26P. After moving from Las Vegas to Ohio it is “sluggish” getting up on plane. Running empty my team partner has to get on the front deck to get it on plane, then it runs good. Just had the motor checked and they said it was strong. The local Ranger dealer has some Fury props I can try. Any suggestions on which one to try? Or is there another prop that I should try? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I would be willing to sacrifice some speed for a better hole shot. Thanks in advance. Carl

Im running a Fury 24 on my 02 Jag/225 at 2400 feet. I dont know what your altitude is there, but either a 24 or 25 Fury will make that Jag jump out of the water. Mike

Thanks Mike, I will try those two props. It is about 1004 feet here. A prop shop up by Lake Erie recommended a 23P 5 blade. I dont know anything about those but I will probably try it also. Again thanks, Carl

The 5 blade prop that you are talking about is called a High Five and it is excellent out of the hole but you will lose a great deal of top end speed. Most use those props for pulling skiers and they use them on big water where they can control the bow in rough water. Your best bet would be to try a 25 Trophy or the 25 Fury will probably be your best option and maybe play with the jackplate some maybe lower it a touch. Lake Mead is a couple of thousand feet in elevation, Havasu is a few hundred, Erie and Ohio are much less than Mead and more like Havause, thus performance should improve at the lower elevation. A 26 Trophy is too much for Lake Mead. We think the TPI on your old EFI engine has floated and you may need a wrench to reset it. BCB

LC, I also run a 98 jag but have the Yamaha VMax 3.1 225. I live in Troy Alabama which has an elevation of about 500ft. Im running the 26 fury. My time on plane is almost instant and my top speed on gps with full gas and full livewells with one person was 74.4mph. With two people (good size guys) my top gps speed was 69.5 mph with a little throttle left. That 26 Fury was a game changer for me

Thanks for all the suggestions, Bass Cat what is the TPI that might have floated? You are right about Havasu boat ran really good there and ok at Mead. I can get some props this week to try and will post what I find out. If you see this Bass Cat let me know what the TPI is and I will check it out. Again thanks, Carl
