Prop Suggestion

97 JAGUAR 225EFI, we are running a trophy 25 prop. Now that we found the issue with the motor and fixed it she is running great. I have a few questions about speed, and the prop. What is max rpms, where should i cruise in the rpm range. Right now it runs 61-63 mph at 5400 rpms. I have had it to 70 once at 5800 but didnt like pushing it that high. It feels like it has a bit more power than prop to me, but I have fished out of a tracker for 6 years with a 50hp…LOL Any suggestions? Is this speed about right for my set up? Can it go faster with a different prop? I keep reading that guys are getting mid 70s with this set up and it just seems a little stretched.Last edited by jcash on October 1st, 2014, 10:50 am, edited 1 time in total.

Hello. I have a 1999 Cougar which is somewhat similar. It had a lightning gearcase on my 2007 225 Etec HO. I run a 28 Raker to 75-76. Your boat is a good deal heavier but suspect you should be seeing low 70s. You would likely need less pitch than me, but not much. Honestly youre over revving at 6 k. Need to get to 5800. A Fury may also be business on your rig. Although I ran a 27 tempest on mine too and did ok.Last edited by BassCatDan on March 30th, 2013, 3:20 am, edited 1 time in total.

I assume this is a non HO etec? 5850 is your target for max speed location. Double oiling at 6k anyway.C.O.D. Jr. III

Actually I think 26 pitch /27 pitch Fury or a 28 Raker might work for you.

You might be able to spin a 26 fury but in the summer it might be too tall.What is the holeshot with the 26 tempest like?How many derbies you fish?Whats your max rpms on the 26 tempest- like you only and not much gas no water in wells?C.O.D. Jr. III

New they will run mid 70s and top end at 76 MPH. You should try a Fury someone has and see what it does.

I have a 98 Jag wit a 2000 opti 225. I was running a 26 trophy plus. My top speed was 71.2 GPS but it suffered on the hole shot. I just put on a 25 fury and now I have a great hole shot. Just jumps right up. Im having a little problem with my steering (needs bleeding I think) so I havent pushed it yet. I weight 275 and I had a guy with me thats just as large if not larger. I did for a second see it climbing out of 66.9 but then better sense took over. Ill let you know more later.
