When I hook my batteries up to charge, the red light comes on and stays on about 45 seconds and they all go green. The batteries are not charged, but the charger will not charge anymore. I can unplug it and replug it in and it will do the same thing. Anyone else ever had this problem??????????????????? Never had any problems with my DualPro!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ProPak IV that came in my 2007 Puma acted similarly – The charger lights would go green after just s few minutes even though I had just been on the lake all day. I contacted the mfr. a couple of times and both times they told me that the charger was working normally and that even though the lights had turned green it was still charging. I did a hydrometer and voltmeter test on the batteries after they had been on the charger a day or so and determined that the charger was only charging them to about 70% of normal.I took out the ProPak IV and installed a 4-bank Dual Pro —- no problems since!C.
There seems to be some conversation that the Dual Pro units have performed better and gain loyalty. We think we need to inform some of you why we choose what we do. Granted the four bank chargers of Noco and CMRhad a higher failure rate than do three banks, though there is a newer version now out. The testing we did with the first Dual Pro company resulted in multiple failures. The company had an unbelievable warranty process that earned them great loyalty. This may have led to the failure of the company and then reforming. Then we also have issues ourselves with that factor. To quote Shorty Evans, “the best D______d Warranty is the one you never have to use”! And Shorty said that standing in our offices when a battery charger representative was trying to sell us on their wonderful warranty proceedure and term. And this we definitely agree with Jo matter the brand.Bass Cat Boats are built for tournament uses and not just at home local use. The voltage supplies at motels and marinas are often less than 120-110 when you and twelve anglers all plug in your boats on limited circuits. One angler surely wont press motel voltage, though a group will. At 110 volts a Dual Pro only system provides 1.25 to 1.40 amps an hour. At 98 volts they simply do not charge. Yes they are zero at 98 volts. The NOCO (CMR) charger will charge something all the way down to 50 volts, at 95 volts you still have 4.3 amps a line. So when you pug that 100 extension cord to your motel room, with your three buddies rooming together in adjoining rooms, sharing one triple receptacle cord to join both boats to roommates, running from the cords to your boats, then you still get a charge. When several tournament guys use the same motel these conditions exist. These conditions usually exist at the Federation State Championships for some, every BFL for others, and you simply do not realize it till your batteries are loosing voltage while your fishing. The more days you spend like that, the more voltage you rob from those batteries with every charge cycle. In a long event like your first BASS Open, as your seldom fish six to eight days straight, you rob life of the batteries in chips every day you have a poor charge. As stay at home anglers you never see this as most any charger. Though your first road trip for a four to six consecutive day event with practice, you could have major issues.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on September 3rd, 2011, 3:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Im not a tournament angler, but Ive spent many nights with my boat plugged into the outlet at a motel room or into an outlet in a marinas boat slip. Ive no idea what the line voltage is at these places, but I do know that Ive never experienced a problem with the Dual Pro failing to charge my batteries. Also no problems with charger failures.I am quite happy with the Dual Pro charger – definitely was not happy with the performance I got out of the ProPak IV. With the Dual Pro, my batteries get a full charge — that wasnt the case with the ProPak IV even though the mfr. said it was performing “normally”. IMHO, not much worse than having to leave the lake early because the batteries gave out due to not being fully charged!Anybody having a need for a ProPak IV, I have one sitting on the shelf in my garage. Id make a “deal” for anyone having a need.C.
Can you help me with the charger BCB? Genius keeps trying to make me jump through hoops to try to solve what is wrong with their charger. Been trying to get it fixed since February and they keep saying it is ok. They have blamed it on batteries, connections, and anything else that they could think of. The only thing they havent offered to do is replace it. The batteries were new and all the connections were clean. They always want to know the what the meter reads and they claim it is charging. Funny thing is that the batteries never get a charge and they claim that it is working correctly. The battery will be at 60% charge and I will hook up the charger. It will charge 45 seconds and still only has 60% charge. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We suggest you contact Bobby C. who is over that department at this time. He does not actually handle these issues, though oversees that area and can help you either tech. or resolve your issues.
And quit buying those 16 gauge extension cords guys. Get at least a 12 gauge cord, to try and minimize the voltage drop to your charger. The longer the cord, the more voltage drop there is, so you need to go to a larger wire.
My Lester on board charger quit working on one bank over the last week…Hooked up carry chargers and both batteries came up to a full charge in a few hours….All of this discussion and a little “Search” research has made me decide to try “Off board” chargers for a year….I travel quite a bit and I dont really see where it will be much more hassle carrying 2 small chargers…I have 2 “Gold” diehard chargers with AGM/Gell/deepcycle settings that should fit the bill nicely…They have both a 12 amp and a 2 amp settings…I have large extension chords but I guess I should do a voltage check and see if I lose volts if I run one chord and split them off to both chargers at the boat…I am going to pull the lester and take it too a guy that says he can rebuild it in my area….My only question for him is if he can rebuild it and maintain the the waterproof….
I do not use an extension chord at all. The outlet is right behind my boat.
