I have a 2008 Cougar AE w/Yamaha 225HP VMAX HPDI with a Yamaha m27 prop. I do not care to be the fastest in the world. As a matter of fact, I hardly get over 45 mph GPS. Mostly around 30 to 35. My trouble is at times where I fish I would like to stay on plane around 25 or less mph. With the current prop, the stern starts to fall and bow rises about 27 mph as I slow down. Would a 4 blade prop help me stay on plane and what size is recommended? Sorry, Im just a 67 year old guy with back problems and speed no longer interests me. Thanks.
Hard to keep a cougar on plane at those slow speeds. That cat wants to run. How about a 25P (or maybe even smaller) trophy plus? Im sure someone much sharper than me will be along in a bit and help you out.
Though not a cougar. This was on old caracal and I know a 20ft boat would probably be different but. I used to nite fish yr around in my 20,s. I never wanted nothing more than just planed of at nite. Basically 25oo or 3000 rpm. I was running a tempest. Seem like no matter wat I done the nose would start coming up. Well at night on a river this just was not acceptable.the only way to get the nose bac over was to gas it. I borrowed a trophy plus from a friend . BOY WAT A DIFFERENCE IT MADE. Needless to say I purchace one. Though it was a big hub foot with a small hub trophy plus with the blow out ring [some call it a weed ring]. I was lucky I had the opt unity to borrow and test before a actual purchace. It was like the trophy pick the back of the boat up and forced the front over. If I go with the Trophy plus, how many sizes do I need to reduce the prop, for example, from a 27 Yamaha to a 26, 25, or smaller trophy plus? Same for the High 5?
