Protecting carpet

I have a 2015 basscat margay. Ive had it out a few times now and it is getting the usual signs of use. It occurred to me I never put any protectant on the carpet. Should I use the standard scotch guard on my carpet? Has anyone tried the new never wet on their carpet?What do you guys recommend? Ive also been debating buying some carpet and trying to make a floor mat for the bottom of the boat. Has anyone done this before? It would be cool if BassCat sold floor mats. They could have the logo on it….. would be cool. ThanksTom

I just replace the carpet when it needs it. im guessing the “signs” of wear areon the bow? that is a fairly small section to pull up and glue another piece in its place. or just rhino line the are of biggest use. who needs carpet anyway?

I have thought about using Scotchguard on my last two Cats, but each time decided not to. I dont think that treatment will help prevent the wear and tear of use, but will help in repelling spills and stains. I just use the recommended cleaning process that BCB suggests, a couple of times during the season, and the carpet cleans and fluffs up like brand new.

you shouldnt have many signs of wear on a 2015. BCBs carpet is pretty durable stuff. All I do is wash with a vinegar and water solution and a hard wooden brush. Use a carpet cleaner like Resolve for stain spot removal. All my carpets have stayed looking like new. If you use the boat so much that this doesnt do anything I dont think any protectant is going to work either.

Just to be clear im being really picky when I say “signs of use”. Once I did unknowing step in grease and walk around my boat. Got a spot I cant seem to make completely disappear. I really want it to look like new for as long as possible.

I just wash mine with a hose and some soapy water using a brush. Then, rinsed thoroughly. Finally, and most importantly, I vacuum out the water with a ShopVac. Its amazing how much dirt the ShopVac pulls out. Plus, your carpet will be nearly dry.Do this a couple of times a year and your carpet will look great.

BCBs suggested method using the flood, vinegar/water scrub, flood, shop vac method is the best I have ever come across, and I have been around boats a long time and tried various cleaning techniques for the carpet. It really looks good after, and if you do it a couple of times annually, your carpet should look new for a long time.

Its amazing, we experiment and do different things and such……But at our fingertips are the experts that have been building, maintaining, R and D ing, warranting, and on and on and on for years. The best I have found are Basscat recommendations to many questions. This included. What Catdude said.
