Pulling BassCat with RV

I was thinking of purchasing a RV to pull my BassCat with. I currently pull my Cat with a four door 1/2 ton GMC pickup. It would be very nice to have an RV where I wouldnt have to stay in a hotel when fishing out of town. Locally, theres a Winnebago Rialta RV for sale. Its listed as a Class B RV. How would a person like me, with no RV experience, know if an RV is capable of pulling my Jaguar up and down the highway? Any suggestions?

This RV I was looking at was a Class B Wennebego Rialta. Its sort of like an oversized van. I called Wennebego to talk to them about it. They told me that it has a 200 lbs vert tongue weight capacity and a 2000 lbs towing capacity. BCB, what are the vertical tongue weight and the overall weight of a 2000 Jaguar? CB2

That sounds like a pretty low towing capacity. Your P/U is probably rated for at least 5000#. A lot would depend on the suspension of the RV along with total drive train. Not sure on the weight of the Jag, but I would imagine you would be pushing the limits you stated.

I appreciate the reply PumaTrac. Yep, I think youre right. I think the Jag by itself is close to 1,800 lbs…….not including equipment, gas, etc. I have no idea about tongue weight. Crying shame though…….That Wennebego wouldve been a neat setup.

cb By the time you get your Jag loaded with gas/batteries/gear, youll be towing in the 3500 – 4,000 lb. range.

I would guess the tongue weight would be about 10% to 15% of the total weight of the rig. If you really want to know, put your rig on a scale at a moving company.

This RV will not pull your boat, sorry. I would stick with a class C with the full size Van type front end or a Class A. They offer a V10, which I had and when you pull a boat you never know its back there. I could drive the one I had which was an 99 Ford with a V10that was a 29 footer, with a boat or car behind, I got 7mpg, if the generator was running, I got 6, With towing nothing, and no gen, running, I got 8. this is crusing down the highway doing 70-75. they do drive and ride great. At 4.00 a gallon of gas that it was and will be, it is now cheaper to stay at Holiday Inn. I do miss the RV though. In short stay with a big V8 to the V10, you do have a lot of weight that your moving. Eric Beaty

actually, on most trailers, your tongue weight is from 5 to 7% on MOST but not all boat trailers. I may be wrong. So lets have BCB chime in on this one.Dan Yonan. ———————————————————

I dont think that RV would safely and effectively pull your Jag based on the info you got from Winnebago. JMHO.
