Puma 05 -livewell fuse keeps popping

The little fuse in the panel keeps popping everytime I go to fill the livewell or drain it. This only started happening this year. Is the fuse in the panel faulty and should it be replaced?Thanks

How about the pump might be bad? Thats why the fuse is most likely popping.

Checked the pump & there doesnt seem to be any issues with it

We assume you hard wired the pump and the pump runs on a direct battery, which has no fuse. The resistance needs to be checked to see if the motor is bad. Or you could plug another pump that is operating into the same position and then see if that pump shuts down. It could still be outside the operation thresh hold, though it would give you a simple check. BCB

If the fuse is popping, its either one of two things: The pump is shorted, or a wire is shorted. The pump bearings are going bad and it is drawing more than the fuse is rated for. Hook another pump thats working, as suggested, to the same fuse. Ill bet it doesnt pop. Then you know the pump is bad and can replace it.All electric motors have a FLA rating (full load amps)…if the motor draws more than that rating, the fuse is supposed to blow. Mike, I would hazard a guess that both your issues are related to winter storage. If you didnt add RV anti freeze to the livewell plumbing you probably froze some residual water over the winter and cracked a housing. Same with the valve. You just cant get all the water out without considerable effort. You wouldnt know in the spring because it would have thawed. Other than that I hope your enjoying the Puma Bob

Thanks Bobcat, but the boat was winterize correctly and the boat was stored indoors in a heated facility all winter long, so zero chance of anything freezing. The only change thats been made is that one of my two new Helix 10s has been installed, but I don;t know how or why that would cause the fuse to trip.

Easiest way to check is to pull the power wire loose from the pump and turn on the switch. If it doesnt pop, replace the pump motor. If it still pops, you have a short else where in the power wire.
