Puma ftd dual console. Yea or nay? and why or why not? (I put this in a poll but cant see how to view polls)
Puma FTD i would give a 110% YES…. The dual console is dependent on if you really have a need for it. If you are going to be taking children or your wife / girlfriend fishing. If its mostly just you and a buddy you dont need a 2nd console if you ask me. If you a tournament guy you shouldnt need a 2nd console. I just depends on your needs. The Puma FTD is a top notch rig you cant go wrong with it.
1958, I have had a Puma FTD DC for the past two years (just got my 2010), and have had a dual console in all my boats all the way back to a 1990 Pantera II. In a 20+ foot boat, it is not in the way, and ANY partner, tournament or not, male, female or otherwise, will appreciate the security, protection and windbreak provided by a dual console. I also love the storage afforded by the glove box on the dual. Only if I fished totally alone would I give up the dual console, and even then I would miss the glove box storage. No negatives from me, after 20 years of running them. Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN
The negative of the second console is that with raised deck and a second console you my have length issues with multiple rods or rods over 70 fitting under the tm head and in front of the console. I have a fortrex with a 1″ “lift” under the mount and can only get 3 rods on that side in front of second console. Certainly the fortrex mount is substantial as well. To me the benefits outweigh the negatives but still there are negatives.C.O.D. Jr. III
I had a duel console skeeter and then went to an 08 puma with a single and never regretted it. There is so much more room and the wife only goes out a couple of times a year. Last I checked my tourney partner that I draw does not make the boat payments
Dual! The only way to go. I agree with Mike. Weather its a draw partner or your best buddy, they will thank you on the cold rainy day. Ward, you would not have that problem if you would just leave those cane poles at home!
Hate dual console, especially if I am the passenger.
I had a dual console for 8 yrs and it was fine and never had any problems. I currently have a single console and LOVE the space. Yes, my partners dont like it and it is cold and they eat bugs every once in a while! It comes down to what you want and how you want your boat to be set up. If I had the choice again, I would pick the single console again and in the future. You could order a single console and try it for a while and then if you dont like it, order the passenger one and have it installed. There are few guys that have made their passenger console removable for warm weather and put it on for the cold weather. I saw the installation on a C boat on BBC.
I own a single console Puma. Wouldnt buy another boat with a dual….Ive only owned one boat with a dual and hated it. I cant stand to ride shotgun in a dual console myself…cant lay back (unless knees are locked up) and makes the boat “cluttered”. ..only really offers wind protection from the body….unless your under 5 or ride with your head in your lap. If its cold or raining…I just put on my helmet. Its easier to navigate quickly throughout the boat when playing a fish as well. I had (2) windscreens broken off the dual console from folks in the rear on back casts…and Ive had countless scrapes and bruises on me and others from bumping into it when navigating to and from the front deck. Only positive I can come up with is that the rain water drains easier off the cover which fits more uniformly with a dual. I guess its just personal preference…single for me. Much prefer the “open concept” no matter which seat I am riding in.
We love our Dual Console Puma FTD. We seem to have plenty of room for our fishing rods and tackle but this is our first 20 Foot boat so it may be different for others. As I said on the poll post…since my Husband and I split the driving time (basically fight over who gets to drive this rocket) the dual console is nice for the loser who has to ride.
