Puma FTD Questions

Just ordered my FIRST Bass Cat…Puma FTD…Excited…Now concerned. Can anyone tell me how this boat performs in shallow water compared to a Triton???? Have I given up any water? How does boat perform in stump fields?? Does it slide or hang???

You did not give up any draft. BCB has the widest rear lower hull in the market, which is what gets you shallow. People claim to float in 12″ of water really use more and have not measured that draft. The transom on a BCB is 23 1/2″ and the water line will be down 5″ to 6″ on the transon. So you can assume a draft of 18″ average. This will vary based on the load and placement. They all draft more than you think, we are just trying to be honest about it. It will slip off a stump row as well as any. The hull does not have any traps or pockets and reverse chines to hang onto a stump. Weight will be similar to the boats you are used to or close enough the the percentage of difference is not significant.

What BCB said and Ill add my own experience with the Puma FTD. Never measured actuall draft. I cant compare draft to a Triton but I have had to retrieve a lure from a shore line weed and had to lift the trolling motor up to back out as it hit ground. The boat didnt touch so the front is high enough for that. Ive rolled over a couple of stumps with no problem. There was some stumps I just knew I was going to hit but never did. Fished some pretty shallow stuff at Guntersville. I came out of a Nitro 591 and it seems to run shallower than that boat.

Youre actually gaining! I fish about 10 days a year out of a Triton 20 Xs Elite. Youll find that you have better control of the boat in stump fields because of the postion of the forward trolling motor pedal placement. And as BCB pointed out, there are no traps or pockets in the hull to get hung up. My Puma FTD comes off stumps as easy or easier than any on the market! Welcome to the best bass boat company!

Welcome to the Family!! Youre going to just plain flat love that Cat!! I considered trading my Baycat on another brand of bassboat about a year ago. I just couldnt make myself do it. My current boat is my second CougarFTD, it is an amazing machine. Ive not had this one on any stumps, but I did get my first Cougar on some stumps from time to time, it just slid right off.

Stickwurm, Welcome to the family. You are going to be very happy with the new boat. Its a very stable fishing platform, great dry running hull. One of the best rides I have ever owned.Post some pictures when you get it.
