Looking for some comparisons between the two. I have an 2011 puma ftd and think it is sold. It has been an awsome boat. Love it but am just a little curious about the erya. I have been following everyones posts on the erya and cant help but think about one. I have to be honest when I say I need speed. Where I fish, first to the hole is important. Draft and weight also need to be taken into consideration. Not looking to here about whose rig is fastest, I would like some real comparisons. Whatever I get will have a 250 xs on it. thanks
I never rode in an Erya and I just bought a 2011 Puma — I had the same question. And from reliable sources, top end on each model will be close. So depending on how you have it set-up, and which boat happens to have a stronger 250 xs, neither boat will leave the other in the dust. In other words, buying an Eyra over a Puma just because of better top end performance might be a mistake.
The Erya is shorter by a few inches, a little narrower in the front like the Panteras, the seats where you drive are lower and its 1 to 2 mph faster with the same HP. But it comes down to the way you like the storage layout, they are both awesome boats.
Good comments in this thread. As for the ride you will not be disappointed coming out of any boat into the Eyra. In most cases its a matter of personal preference. They both offer something different but both are good. Most are comfortable with the traditional high in the saddle ride with BassCats. The Eyra you sit a bit lower with a more wrap around experience. Its a matter of personal preference. As for the speed comment the Eyra is still to new and no one has really dedicated time with a 250 to see what it will do with the exception of BassCat personnel. Unconfirmed sources say its slightly higher then 1 to 2 mph faster then any other BassCat boat. To date with stock motor and props the Eyra has hit 84 with the SHO and the ProXS. I am sure in the right situation the Evinrude Etec can run in the same neighborhood. If speed is your thing and you are a BassCat guy the Eyra is the boat to have. For added depth on the issue talk directly with BassCat more specifically RP. However to push that envelop it will require time and propping. For some that is overkill. They be probably right but for the other coconuts like myself its an added value because I find the performance end to be just a enjoyable as wetting a line. Very few boats offer both. BassCat does. When more Eyras get out I predict well see faster speeds approaching 83-85 in winter time temps (not counting current). Its just a matter of time. Most in the know are aware of the Eyras speed capabilities. The Eyras new graphics, ladder and retractable stern light:I will say the lines on the Erya are the sharpest Ive seen… Also, the ladder on the Eyra is outstanding. By far the best ladder on the market. The retractable stern light on my Eyra is awesome. No more digging in the rod lockers in the morning anymore. However, I thought I read somewhere BassCat is no longer offering it. For me I press the nav button and up pops the stern light. Way cool.
Never rode in one but I think the Eyra is the best looking bass boat, of any brand, on the market today.
The nice thing about Bass Cat boats is there are several different layouts to choose fro and the the two that you are asking about are by far the two most popular 20+ footers. Ive been in an Eyra a time or two and continue to select a Puma FTD because of a comfort factor. As said above the Eyra seating is a little lower than a Puma FTD. The lower seating does not make me feel any more secure and it makes a shorter person such as myself have a harder time seeing over the windshield. The storage is personal preference, but I prefer multiple storage compartments vs. larger storage compartments. Again the reason that I choose a Puma FTD. Other reasons I prefer a Puma FTD: floor area, trolling motor foot pedal more forward on the bow, little better ride.Reasons to own an Eyra:looksfaster – though dont expect it to be head and shoulders above a Puma FTD, especially if loaded with power poles, 4 batteries, and a lot of tacklelookslooksIt really does come down to personal preference and you should find one in your area to compare the two. Good luck with your decision.
Thanks for the comments so far. Both myself and my brother in law are planning on new boats this fall. I lov—————————-e my puma ftd. My dealer Time on The Water has a Erya and cant stop looking at it. How does anyone like the vertical rod and storage lockers? Is it hard to get around when one is open? How does everyone feel the resale value will be on the Erya? Maybe we will just get one of each and compare and tweek on both.
I absolutely love those coffin lids on my Eyra. Very smartly thought out by BassCat. Alert: just posted on this site. Someone has hit 86 plus with his Eyra back in April. That is a smoking fast hull. As for resale this is a BassCat premium boat. It will hold up right along with all the other great BassCat premium boats.
