Pumps shutting off

I have a Bp100 dash in my 94 PII recently the aer pump and the recirc pump will shut off after running for 30-45 secs. You can hear the braeker reset in the dash allowing me to turn the pump on again. It runs for 30 seconds and cuts off. If I run the outboard the pumps will run continuously. Im thinking some sort of Voltage sensor might be faulty. Pumps were replaced this year but have worked fine up to now. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sounds like a low voltage, or battery issue, which to me would explain why they keep running while the engine is running. Check your battery, or just switch leads to a trolling battery and see what happens. D.

If theres enough voltage to start the motor shouldnt that be enough to run the pump for more than 30 seconds?

It is a ground connection coming from either a plug in the harness, or the terminal block. It could also be a faulty (weak) cartridge, though it would not be only a cartridge. It would also have a ground issue and a combo of both. Make sure and clean them all up, and put some petroleum jelly (vaseline) on the connections. BCB

Its probably not a cartridge since the aer is new and the recirc is doing the same thing. Both going up at the same time, not likely. All the battery connections were re-done when I replaced my onboard charger several weeks back.The terminal block is fine. Would a ground problem in a harness be negated by the outboard runnning?

We had the same problem. After doing all the things Bass Cat recommends, we found the problem to be in the battery. It seems the dash will detect a low voltage problem in the battery and shut the pumps down to conserve enough power to start the motor. This is its prime function. Get a good Trojan battery for this and your problem will be over…..”Uncle” Mike

I agree with Uncle Mike. I have a 95 pII with the bp dash and had the same problem. When the battery gets weak it will shut off all functions to allow enough voltage for the engine to start. Replaced the battery and no more problems.

Agree with Tiny & UncleMike, I pushed my 36V trolling motor hard all day in 25+ winds at a local tourney and towards the end of the day my pumps would not engage. Replaced my four year old Trojans a few weeks later with a new set of Trojan SCS200s and the problems went bye-bye!
