PVS plugs on a Mercury ProXs 250 V8

I just took my Cougar SP out for the break in and I am getting a lot of bow rise on the holeshot.

ProXs 250 4 Stroke Fury 3 blade 24P

20 gallons of fuel

no tackle to speak of

me and one other in the boat

I have read about PVS plugs affecting holeshot, and my prop does not have any hole plugged

Has anyone else experienced this in a Cougar with the new 4 stroke?

I am new to this, and I do not know if the prop was blowing out….

Im not sure the procedure for the newest engine break it, but you want that boat loaded down heavy and trim all the way down. More fuel and weight the better imo. What exactly is it doing? reve’ing up when the bow breaks over? Thats pretty typical. And with no gear in the bow… It might take a bit to draw the nose down. Im sure alot of other will chime in.

My 2020 cougar was same with the fury 24, but dealer told me to go through break in with Motor trimmed down and plate down for first couple hours, but first couple hours was sluggish and nose straight in the air loaded and 3 ppl not as bad with 2 ppl. Was new to te jack plate, So was told to play with it sum, So now it pops right up with jack plate on 7, but once it starts breaking over start going down with plate or it will blow out. It like a dance move I guess. Havent had props worked on yet. but Also went to Fury 25 still no problems unless live wells are full and 3 ppl, then it takes a lill longer. boat is loaded heavily. Also was told by the dealer Mech that he thought Mercury had like time delay built into the computer system that wont give the boat full power till after break in, He said that was a rumor though didn’t know for sure. but after the couples hours running on mine it got better but at same time I was playing with the jack plate. now with 2 ppl no problems pops right up with the 24 or 25 starting JP 5-8 then coming down with it as it breaks over

Put your tackle in it. The Cougar/Puma/Eyra series with fuel tanks in the rear will have more bow rise during hole shot (especially the Eyra), than the mid tank Sabre, PII, Classic and Caracal.

Once the engine is completely broke in, you can start JP adjustments for best performance. As for the Prop exhaust (PVS) plugs, on the Fury series they are all usually left out.

Thanks for the input guys….I may need to invest in a hydualic JP…..

I am coming out of a Sabre so the I can see with the tanks in the back of the Cougar it will be different.

I did not think the bow rise would be that bad though….almost straight up with it trimmed all the way down.

I talked to Ronnie Gilbert, and he said he could help, but I need to get some RPM numbers before I send it off.

I just wonder if a Fury 4 blade 24P would help….I am not worried about losing anything on the big end.

My thoughts are a prop with more stern lift like the Trophy might help as Fury doesn’t have a lot of natural lift and the new v8 4-strokes from Mercury are heavier.
