Question about Hull Repair

My fishing partner showed me a spot on his hull the other day and was wondering if he should patch this spot on his hull. It is on the back corner of his 1999 Pantera 3. The following pictures shows the gel coat that has been knocked off. I have read where some of you are using Marine Tex and was wondering if that would work for a repair like this? I have worked with Marine Tex but have worked with fiberglass when I made my flipping deck. Any thoughts would be appreciated.Thanks,Mike Coffee

It could be a temporary patch with Marine Tex. It is down to fiberglass cloth and should see a shop, imho. Gonna need to let it dry out as well….Ive used MT on my hull where it was down into the black but mine is much older hull, a 96. We would have someone put some geloat in these areas. This hull is made of a true Vinyl Ester resin and should not really have the issues of hydraulicing or water jacketing the geloat from the fiberglass like newer hulls are prone to do. This was only true on BCB hulls then and thanks to the EPA we had to go to different resins.

Thanks for the replies. We do not have a fiberglass shop in the area. Can we get some white gelcoat from BassCat?Thanks,Mike

Call Parts and give them the hull serial number and they should be able to mix you up some gelcoat, gelcoat is not traditionally difficult to work with, but with that repair, i think id find a repair shop to handle it. For the meantime, marine tex will seal it off and give you a good temporary repair, and is very simple to work with.

Dont forget the mekp, wax paper, 1200, acetone, and wax. A corner with white gel shouldnt be hard. Would plan on doing 4-5 coats as a patch repair and then sand the edges down. Id take a flat gel corner anyday over a metal flake side that will need to be diluted to match,C.O.D. Jr. III

That boat looks like it took a ride like Wards old P4 ! OVER a jetty !

It made a trip to Broken Bow and took a lick. Its home water is Sam Rayburn so there are not any issues with having to beach or navigate around rocks there.
