Question about mounting side imaging tranducer on the jack plate

I was wondering if, when mounting a humminbird side imaging transducer on the jack plate, does it require a second transducer for high speed running, or will the one function fine? I saw this topic in another thread, but the answer wasnt too clear for me.

I do not have a unit with side imaging but from all I have read on here, to get a bottom reading while on plane you will need a second transducer with a selector switch to go back and forth between the two when needed. The side imaging transducer is usually pretty much out of the water when on plane and will not give you a good reading at speed. Yes you will need a Y cable and internal transducer.

Toledo Basser BCB are right about needing a second ducer. One follow up note is the selector switch is only needed if you choose to glass in the quadrabeam ducer. If you choose to use the dual beam ducer, you wont need the selector switch. With the dual beam ducer, the unit will automatically cut you off the transom mount and switch you to the internal. From what ive heard, most people will choose the dualbeam because you dont have to mess with a switch.

There a few things that the outside of the HB box does not tell you that will cost you extra money. As mentioned, if you want to get high speed (on plane) sonar readings, you need a second dual beam transducer. Best option is to get the glassed-in version. You also need to purchase a Y cable that connects to the SI transducer and the DB transducers. This “hardwires” the two transducers to the electronics, making a switch not required. All dual beam sonar readings will always come from the glassed in ducer. The glassed in ducer and y cable will cost about $140 bucks. If you want to mount in the dash, you will need a HB dash kit and a BC-made bezel to make the installation look good-these are available from BC, about $100 bucks. When your done, you will get over the extra cost irration and really enjoy the new unit.jwt
