Now that I have this great boat Im starting to add longer rods to my equipment. I believe (but not sure) that I should be able to handle up to 8 foot rods. In reality Im having trouble with anything over 7 2″. I have an organizer in both lockers. The problem is not so much the length but the rod eyelets. The forward hole isnt big enough the let the rod eyelets pass through far enough so that I can get the butt of the rod in the locker without bending the eyelet back so it can fit in the hole. This would be the second to the largest eyelet, not the largest eyelet. Wondering if its possible to enlarge the forward holes.
Those are large golf tubes and they do not make a larger tube. Some other rod systems made by outside vendors have a short oval shaped tube that allows the guides to go in, though those tubes are shorter past the holder. You could go to a lighter piping of some sort and install it in the system if you find one that would work for you. You will more than likely have to hand sand or trim the holes larger with a tool similar to a die grinder.
I have 8 rods in my 2008 PII with no problems at all and it is a dual console as well. Actually I have two 8, three 79, two 76 and the rest are all 72 or longer in the tubes with no problems getting them in at all. Yes you will have to bend the rods a little to get them in the tubes but that is the downside to having a dual console boat.
The issue on this particular P4 is the location of the guides and size of guides on his rods.

Ive been looking at a number of solutions, even replacing the eyelets with smaller or bendable ones like the Recoil brand. Theres gotta be a simple solution Im just not seeing. If you know of vendors that might have larger tubes, please let me know.

The baitcasters arent a problem because the eyelets are much smaller.

Ahh see I dont have but one spinning rod so that isnt a problem to me. lol You can get micro sized guides for spinning rods just like they have for the bait casting rods so that might be an option for you.

Its good to know that I can go to 8 ft rods if I can figure this out. There are several rod makers using the Recoil guides. Those would be flexible and allow me to bend them while I was seating the rod.
Hi, I had the same problem with my 2008 P IV. I solved it by buying a few of these guys ( http://www.stickjacket.com) and putting the long rods in the bottom of the rod locker. It works great! I believe BassCat sells something similar. I think bending rod eyes, even the flexible ones isnt a good option. Good luck in your search.john
