Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Question for Eyra/P2 owners
For any of you that have owned both an Eyra and a Pantera 2Are they more alike or not with regards to ride, fishability, etc. ?Reason I ask is that at the demo rides today I was able to ride in an Eyra and was shocked at not only how well it rode but at how stable it was at rest, given its sports car-like heritage. I had basically made up my mind on the new P-Classic, and was satisfied with all it brings to the table, but the ride in the Eyra made me wonder if maybe the P2 wouldnt be more the boat I need than the P-Classic…..IF it is more similiar with regards to all around ride/fishability.The price of a P-classic with all I would want would probably put me in the same ballpark as the P2, so I really am back on the fence between these two.Of course I would LOVE to have an Eyra but realistically its out of the price range I need to stay with….(but God I still want one LOL)Any feedback from prior owners of these two (P2 /Eyra) would be valuable and highly appreciated by this now, more confused than ever, future BCB owner. (P.S. Pulling for Steve Kennedy this wknd…War Eagle!! )
I own a 13p2. I have not rode in the p classic but have crawled around in one. For me the classic is a very nice rig. Just not for me. Each will have there own views. The p2 is very stable obivously the 20s is better. Imho if price wise your that close to the p2 id get the p2. The p2 has been around a long time. Tried and tested. Has a few more bells and whistles. Keep in mind i to love the eyra and the cougar and coulda purchased one. But for a 85% crappie fisherman and 15% bass fisherman (myself). I feel blessed with the p2. Actually i looked for a p4 for a long time and shoulda just purchased a new one. Imho the p4 was the best 19 on the market!!. Honestly though i think you will be more than happy with the p classic or the p2!. Ride and speed should be close to the same with the 200 with the p2 with a slight advantage. Good luck with your shopping.

(taxes, license, registration paperwork etc.)Now if you really do want an Eyra then take a look at the “Basscats for sale” section of the forum and you will find that you can purchase like new previously owned Eyras with low hours for that same price. Just saying.Ill add this disclaimer that I always buy new but others dont. I dont know if youre in that group or not. Just another option for you.I do own a new P2 and am very happy with the way it performs and fishes. You will enjoy it too Im sure. I havent seen the new Classic yet. If you price the Classic out with the options you want and can purchase the P2 for the same price, I would go with the P2 because it is not an “entry level boat” and the “Advantage Elite” package seals the deal for the P2.I hope this helps and “good luck with your shopping”. You cant go wrong with any of the BassCat boats!
Depends on your fishing style and wants. I have had 3 p2s and will be in my 2nd Eyra soon. The fishing platform is second to none on both just fishing style. My P2s with 200 Opits/Pro XS out run a lot of other brand boats with 250s and is hands down one of the quickest mid range fishing rigs out there. The Eyra is just a HOT ROD plan and simple it is flat out the fastest stock bass I have every driven with out any work to it. I fish were I need to make long runs and the EYRA affords me that option. The coffin lids are very easy to access and the lay out lets you get to everything you need quickly. If price is the leading factor then the P2. If fast is want you desire then make it the Eyra. If you want fish ability than either will definitely will fill the bill. I have had both and they both have worked out really well.
Thanks for the responses guys. After more talking with reps at the BCB booth at the Expo I believe the P2 will be the boat for me. Now If they can come out with that new 3.4 Merc 4-stroke in an PROXS package…. 😉
Im not sure if Im helping here but here is my observations. First, I have an 07 Classic 200 Opti 26P 3 blade Fury. Same hull as the P2. Very quick, nimble, unbelievable out of the hole, good in rough water, and a blast to drive. I was at the test rides too and went out in the new Classic. To be honest, while I mostly like the layout of the new Classic I knew it was larger and heavier then mine so I expected performance to diminish some. The new Classic knocked my socks off. Granted the boat was empty, dry live wells, and so on. This one had the Merc 200 Pro XS and believe propped with a 23 or 24″ prop. In a pretty short run we hit around 70 in a heart beat (GPS not working for speed). We banged off the multiple direction boat wakes, hit some larger wakes, and drove smooth seas. Handled all very well. Be advised this thing flies. There was like NO boat in the water when trimmed less then 1/4 on gauge and we flew. RPMs pushing or at 6000 (but no alarm). Rocket out of the hole just like old Classic. Deck is of course roomy. It does not have bells and whistle most of us are used too and live well system is not what Im used too. There is room for a very large unit in dash or a smaller unit and other gauges if so desired. For me, Id want the 200 but a 150 I think would push a tourney load, couple reasonably sized anglers, and full wells down the lake at 60 plus. 200 will push high 60s tourney load, 70 plus alone. This boat is a pisser to drive according to the young man who drove. He said when there was down time, everyone was taking turns with the Classic because it was so much fun to drive. I thought so too and I really wasnt expecting to impressed with the new Classics performance. Very pleasantly surprised. I think one can accessorize the boat to get close to what you want. Any sacrifices made are more than made up for by large deck and hot rod performance. LIke I said, this thing really knocked my socks off. I test rode in Caracal too with Merc not broke in totally so pushing motor not an option. Caracal was everything I expected from a Bass Cat premium boat and performance was better then expected. Very agile boat! Id love one but if I couldnt swing it, I wouldnt hesitate to go with the Classic. Sorry if I added to the boat choice decision difficulty!
And the best part is to come. DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!
