tr eyman, we the only ones with 250xs 1.62 on BassCats. I have a 06 Puma have only 9hr still trying props. best has been a 26Tempest + The heat is killing me, 5800rpm and 79.6gps How does your Cougar do rpm wise in this heat and humi. with the 25p? Wounder how a 25Tropy would be, ever tried one ??
Ive tried the 26, couldnt turn it when the motor was new. Hole shot was awful and sluggish all around. Changed to a 25 temp & 25 trophie, got the best w/ temp. at 81.4 @ 5800(new) Then I messed with the exhaust rings, that raised it a little. I had the cup added and the ears trimd slightly with a few skeg mods. Now Im seeing 84.7 @ 61~62K and Im being told that the colder it gets, the rev limiter going to catch it. I like having rev problems at 85, keep me out of trouble. I like the lower unit, its just getting it with the right prop. You asked about the 4 blade, its not even comparable to the 3 with the cup added to it. (3 to 4 MPH slower new) The one thing is, its gonna blow out to much. If ya add the blow-out ring, it fixes that but reduces the exhaust being a smaller diameter prop. “Drive IT like you Stole IT!”
treyman, sounds like your on the edge, and looking over—-Ilike it like that…Got a new 25Tempest + Made a small run with it still only about 5780.The blades on that thing look 1/4 in. thick, sure needs a shave job. Have the name of Phils prop man in Louisiana,so when it cools down will send the 26 for B and B with a shave. With all that and cooler weather maby I can atleast catch sight of the EDGE at 6000 . If it works ok then Ill work the 25. I really like the Tempest but would try a Trophy if could find one..
Fishar, there is a place that does good work by Gonzales, LA. BOs Prop 225-698-6942. Dont know where you are, but it could be worth it. Did you get your boat at Thomas Marine? talked to them guys and they said there was another one around like mine. The guy they were talking about had a Bullet before with the same motor. Let the temp drop, I wanna hit the limit. From what Im hearing the 250s not turning out but 220 in these conditions. Need to figure a way to get ram air and an intercooler to drop the humidity. Just had to put loc-tite on all the bolts for the motor, next I have to take everything off the boat and redo it. Everything was about to fall off the back. Second time, so I guess Its gonna be a weekend at work for me. My boat is leaking to, scares me to let anyothers work on it now. At least if I do it, it will be DONE.
Treyman, thanks for the prop #. Ilm in Norht West Ar. in between somewhere and nowwhere. Got Puma from Waymack Marine in Springdale ,without motor, drove 225 miles south to Hope AR. (Rothwell Marine) for the 250xs.I know that seems like a long drive but he beat everyone else price besides its a 50 mile drive just to find lake water from were i live..Your leak is it arround the bolts on jp? Need to check mine also. Its to hot here for anything but Ill have to take a run early sat morn on Beaver. Installing hot foot Sunday, never had one but everyone swears by them or is it at them? The prop thing is never ending ,was allmost a year on my last boat before i was satisfied. Good luck with the work this weekend, locktite a good idea,,..
Warning on Detwiler platesJust a heads up for you on the hydraulic jack plates.
Thanks for the plate info. I saw one that just broke the bolts. Seems with this many people with them they would recall or offer a fix. We have a little money tied up in these toys. The gauge is crazy on them too. never the same reading twice.
