Questions about resin upgrade on p2

I have a 2021 p2 on order. When I placed the order I remember there being an option for upgraded resin but didn’t really understand what it meant or how it would effect the end product.

I have seen things in the forums indicating that if you plan on keep the boat for a while, or are rough on it, you should upgrade the resin. The upgraded resin is vinyl Esther like on the premium models vs a hybrid resin for the vision and advantage models.

I don’t plan on being rough on it, but I do plan on keeping it for 10+ years. Was partially the reason I picked basscat, the long term quality.

My question is what will happen to the hull if I don’t upgrade the resin over time? I thought there was a lifetime warranty on the hull? Will it just lead to more stress cracks or something more serious ? I’m trying to understand if I should pay extra or not.

I am not a pro, just fishing on weekends and do local club tournaments on the California Delta, but do fish year round.

Thought maybe someone on here would know more.

I’d doubt that too many p2 Sabre margay owners even know there is a resin upgrade. In addition the resin used in those are likely better than what is used in other mfg”s premium models. The better resin will help with stress cracking blistering but won’t eliminate completely. Boats aren’t made to go through brick walls which some might think they are. As far as being rough on one it only takes one time to get caught in a storm or hit a boat wake wrong or bump into a stump or dock to cause stress. You might be the most meticulous careful person on the water. It just doesn’t matter. So being rough on one has nothing to do with it. It all comes down to your choice. Good luck!

It’s a matter of choice and the Vinyl Ester resin is about 40% more durable than the standard resin we use, which is also a proprietary Isothalic resin.

If you think ten years, your likely 12-13 before replacement. That makes you a candidate for the upgrade if you desire it. If you fish less than 100 engine hours a year we might not spend the money. If you fish more than 100 engine hours a year we would consider it.

That’s our way of viewing the value vs. return on costs.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like would be a good idea to me. As far as engine hours go, I do not put a lot, trolling motor will end up with more hours more than likely. Seems to me is almost peace of mind, allows for a little more margin of error. Main concern is just that it lasts and holds up. Had a concern with all that weight hanging of back of boat would wear on the rear end over time and create stress.

I’ll ask the dealer if still can change the order. Don’t know if they started building it yet or not.

Yes, all the premium boats have it standard.

Yes standard on all Premium models.
